Looking to learn what the future of AI means for lawyers? Be sure to register for our upcoming program Adapt and Thrive: AI and the Future of Law!
For an idea of what to expect from this April 22 session, our course instructor, lawyer/ technologist Joshua Weaver, recently shared his top 3 generative AI tools for the solo lawyer.
Here’s what Joshua suggests:
1. $20/month ChatGPT 4 subscription (there is a BIG jump in intelligence and reasoning between the free 3.5 model and the paid 4 model) then immediately spend some time learning how to create custom GPTs. For now, GPTs are mostly useful for internal processes, but their uses are wide-ranging. Essentially, you can train a GPT to do a specific kind of work and give it knowledge specific to those tasks, then anytime you need it, you can use that tool and it's already learned what you want it to do.
2. Perplexity.ai, the free version is great but here, too, if you pay for the sub you get access to a better model. This service replaces google with more thoughtful answers, you can have a conversation about things until you fully understand, and it's ad free! Set this as your default browser search engine and you'll get answers to things much faster.
You can create a marketing bot that plans and writes content specific to your firm, you can create an onboarding bot, that assists with intake and onboarding new clients, a legal argument bot that helps you test your theories of a case and what opposing counsel might say, and so on--the possibilities are mostly limited to your imagination, and for $20 to access these capabilities, it's a no brainer.
3. DALLE (built into ChatGPT) can do image generation quite well, but not as well as MidJourney. If you're needing to create marketing images and videos, using a combination of MidJourney and Runwayml will allow you to create stunning images and short videos in just about any style you need. There's a little bit of a learning curve to it, but it's also relatively fun a
