Have you, or anyone you know, experienced an exorbitant rent increase that may or may not have forced you to leave the place you were renting? Uxbridge area.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our auction❤️

Things have dramatically changed in our rescue world. That can of friskies we not so long ago paid 50 cents for, is now a dollar or more. Multiply that by a couple of hundred kitties, factoring in costs have increased across the board and you understand our struggle. So for your kindness and support, we are grateful.

I’d like to introduce this wee lass. She arrived earlier today. I believe she’s 8/9 weeks old, but weighs over a pound. She was found crying outside of a rural property. From the fact she’s absolute skin and bones, we know she’s been on her own awhile 😞.

She is in my care and will be closely monitored throughout the night, receiving lots of fluids. Tomorrow she will be one of several kitties seeing our friends at Simcoe Rossland Animal Hospital.

Please keep her in your thoughts 🙏

There's a fabulous read on the National Observer's website, written by Brent Jolly, president of the Canadian Association of Journalists (of which I'm a member) on why Bill C-18 vs. Big Tech is such a big deal. Just wish I could share it! (it's blocked here). Have a read if you want to know in plain English what's going on.

** UPDATE **

Thank you to each and everyone who kept this tiny kitten in your thoughts and prayers this morning. We have named her Madison💗

Madison is about four weeks young. X-rays have shown that she has no skull fractures, her spine and legs look good.

Most of her trauma is to her face, to one eye, in particular. There is also some injury to her nose, running to her mouth. Her lip is split open. Her wounds have been cleaned, she’s receiving antibiotics for infection and meds for pain management.

There is a small amount of fluid on her skull and in her abdomen which we suspect is trauma based. She does have signs of “road rash” although we do not believe her injuries were caused by direct impact with a vehicle. Madison’s finders are currently back on site, where she was found, searching for other kittens.

Madison is a bottle baby, requiring both regular feedings and ongoing medical care and observation. She has been released from Simcoe Rossland Animal Hospital and is now in the care of foster mom Deb, who as you know, is an experienced bottle feeder and a medical foster.

As reported by Deb:

“Madison is the sweetest girl. SHE PURRS UP A STORM when being held and rolls to expose her tummy for stroking. For her first feeding, she drank about 10 mL of KMR. I was helping her so no forced suckling required that would cause pain to her injured mouth. I just apply gentle pressure to keep a steady drip going.”

Deb is providing round the clock care and unless emergency medical assistance is required, Madison will return to Simcoe Rossland in 72 hours for assessment and care including another round of digital imaging.

We at BCC are strong believers of the power of positive thoughts and prayer and are incredibly thankful to everyone who kept Madison in your thoughts today. Although not “out of the woods”, we are elated to learn she did not sustain severe head trauma, as was initially suspected.

To those asking about making financial donations to Madison’s care, they can be made directly to Simcoe Rossland Animal Hospital at:
905-571-7333 (please indicate “for Madison”)

or to us directly via etransfer to:
[email protected]

(One of Madison’s x-rays is included in the comment section.)

We're back! We missed you last week, but we have everything you need to get caught up! AND Waldo is hiding somewhere in our office...

With the arrival of more than 50 cats and kittens in the month of June, along with more than 120 cats and kittens already in our care (some receiving ongoing medical care, others socialization, still others, hoping to find a forever home), we have a HUGE number of tummies to fill. And more will soon be joining us as 3 moms-to-be will bring their last litter of wee ones to our family over the next few days.

Sadly, food and litter donations have been scarce and our pantry is nearly bare. Deb, our ‘bean counter’, gave me a ‘reality check call’ this morning. We reviewed our June expenses and they are alarming, especially to me, the front line person receiving and responding to so many pleas for help.

In June, our BCC family spent a whopping $17,073.28 in vetting.
Our costs for supplies (food and litter) were $6829.31,
For a grand total of: $23,902.59.

Offsetting our expenses were monetary donations, adoptions and an early June fundraiser which generated about 50% of our costs.

We share in the collective pain as costs continue to rise. Cat food and litter costs have increased by upwards of 50% making it difficult for everyone, especially for us who feed so many. And today, looking at almost empty food pantry shelves, with zero litter to stack, it leaves a bleak outlook moving into July.

The added stress puts a heavy burden on how many more kitties we can realistically assist this month. As everyone knows, I have a very difficult time saying “no”, especially to sick and injured cats, those like Little Smokey who we know would never have survived. And so, if we can continue helping cats, even I understand we must be realistic and financially responsible.

Many of you have reached out, asking how YOU can HELP. Quite simply, we need your support in filling our pantry. Quickly!!!

Urgently needed items include :

✔️Friskies pate
✔️Fancy Feast grilled
✔️RC, Wellness, Iams kitten (wet & dry food)
✔️ Whiskas dry food, any flavour

And litter! The huge intake makes huge output 💩

We are and will continue to help the many cats and kittens in the greatest need. The numbers we can help this month and next is entirely dependent on the donations we receive NOW!

Attached is our Amazon wish list. We also have drop off locations throughout Durham Region (and a few in Kawartha Lakes).

Through these stressful and uncertain times, we can and will make a difference. Teamwork WORKS!

HELP US ❤️ HELP THEM, please.

PLEASE SHARE: these are cats and kittens living in our communities 🙏
