What can one even say about this vile smear one X user received today? I'll try to say something. We need to say *something* about this. The antisemitism that has been more forcefully revealed lately in Canada is shocking to me as someone who schooled with, befriended, and lived amongst Jewish people right from a young age. I also dated several Jewish women who were kind enough to tolerate me....

Here's another one from my long-running "series" on X in which I have an imaginary friend* or lost soul* on the internet (*they could be the same person) asks me what in tarnation "progressive" is. It goes something like this: Hey Joel, what is "progressive?" Well, here are two real statements from the news just today: 1. "So no, the newspaper bailout has done nothing to reverse our long-term decline....

What's next? Most everything. Progressive means progressive. Bagels are a Jewish staple, but in this one instance, I don't think it's because the progressives are antisemitic. I think it's merely because they're loons. Of course they could be both. If it's fun, useful, or productive, the progressives will force you to license it, register it, they will tax you on it, or they will…...

Thanks to Bob Mackin for bringing this to our attention on X this morning. He wrote: "In the report out today, recommending the NDP expand so-called "safer supply" of hard drugs, the bios of the report contributors." I read the bios he attached before I even read the actual report they signed, which was posted further down my timeline. My eyes nearly rolled out of my noggin on the first post....

Oh good. More encampments. Canada's back! I can't let this go without correcting the state-owned CBC: They aren't mere "homeless" encampments, as much as they are encampments of drug addicts (with little or no serious treatment options), the mental health afflicted (also untreated), and victims of out-of-control immigration (election in '25), and, well, what ("our") Ann Coulter said just today…...

Imagine, if you will, a kind and generous soul makes an effort and bends down to feed a squirrel some nuts out of its hand. But in this story, the squirrel paid the hand to feed it those nuts. An update in this government rip-off scandal-in-the-making. Read this, and this, to catch up. Even though a vast majority think it's totally stupid, the governments carry on as if they know better, and as if everyone is on board and supporting their crazy ideas, and them. They could be half right. To wit: More than half of Metro Vancouver residents think the ballooning cost to host World Cup soccer in 2026 is not worth it, a…...

I've been posting on X with the heading "Canada going down — an update" for the past few weeks, in which I give examples proving that Canada is, in fact, going down. By this I mean it is turning into a poor country, and one which is increasingly punching below its weight in most every regard: economically, culturally, in terms of global position, GDP per person, and so on. Doing it here will allow me to expand a little more than it is comfortable to do on X. Plus it's a great early-warning system.

I was going to go with "hot takes" for this post's headline but I thought it was a little presumptuous and, obviously, subjective. I mean maybe you'll say the take wasn't hot. Or maybe the take was a given, in which case it would be a hot given, not a hot take. So many probs. Much give and take. But yeah, I'm rambling, because I haven't had the time or brainpower to engage here at PTBC lately, as at least one of you have noticed, including even now as I write this....

This is a bit of an UPDATE to my previous article about this boondoggle, which you can read just here: The update to my article doesn't require much from me after you see the article in the Vancouver Sun today. It mostly speaks for itself, or at least you'd think it would. The Big Government and its NDP bros in the "news" media are still totally on board, making all manner of justifications for both the initial outlay and this latest DOUBLING of that planned outlay (if "planned" is even a cogent word to these people)....

Taxpayer funding of major professional sports should be completely disqualified from the game. Whether it's the Olympics (or as I call them, The Government Games, because that's precisely what they are) or the upcoming (2026) FIFA World Cup soccer games taking place in Canada, or anything else, they should be funded by themselves. If I understand correctly, and I usually do, soccer in particular is the world's richest sport, with some players making hundreds of millions....

She says it like it's a good thing. But attaining "middle class" status isn't good, it's barely adequate. It's like boasting, We're number forty! After reading the story, my reflexive X response to the state-owned CBC's post on X about this story was: Blame Big Government: It was reflexive but I was confident it was true. Anytime the progressives in the Liberal/NDP party's "news" divisions (CTV, state-owned CBC, Toronto Star, et al) warn of an ever-so-scary "new normal," get ready for the same-old, same-old. By which I mean you need to do nothing at all (except maybe stop paying attention to hacks). As an x-avid skier and former resident and landlord in Whistler, BC, (and as someone who has lived a lot longer than most of the woke, progressive 20-somethings that seem to dominate newsrooms and social media today) I've seen this theme repeat itself time and again at a local level, which very much resembles the global coverage....
