Our Story

I began my doula journey in February 2016 after the birth of my first child. Though I grew up around nurses and had small knowledge of the process of having a baby, I never truly felt drawn to this career until having a child myself.

While I was pregnant, I enjoyed researching about pregnancy and childbirth and found the whole process to be fascinating. My own births were unique and empowering experiences due to the support that I had both before and during the process - from my mother (an L&D nurse), my midwife and my doula. My goal is to ensure that all parents leave their birth experiences feeling that level of support. Childbirth is something that has such an impact on both the mother and father, and I want for it to be a positive one rather than negative.

I have two live children of my own and two angel babies. I feel that my experiences with being a mother and with loss have shaped the doula that I am today. Not only do I understand the physical, mental and emotional journey that childbirth is, but I know what it is like to cautiously proceed with a new pregnancy after losing one previously (both of my live children are rainbows). I am very open about my personal experiences with pregnancy loss and I would love to support more moms that have experienced loss through their viable pregnancies. I hope to help them build back confidence in their body’s ability to birth, and to help them move forward while still honouring their children who have moved on.

After becoming a doula and becoming obsessed with the various processes of the human body during birth, I decided to further my career and took my Lamaze® childbirth educators training, which has helped me immensely and expanded my level of knowledge to great lengths. I now offer both private and group prenatal classes. My side business, Dancing Doula, is my blog dedicated to providing women with insight and education into the world of childbirth and dance programs for pregnant and postpartum moms. I am also a member of the executive of the Doula Association of Edmonton, which is a local club that supports doulas in the community through discussion, education and advocacy.
