Canadian trucking group says new dog importation regs could cause ‘logjam’ at border: the Canadian Trucking Alliance is claiming the rules have the “potential to cause significant disruption to commercial vehicle travel and all cross-border trade” and is asking the agency to hold off on implementing them until the start of the New Year.

Canadian trucking group is asking U.S. to delay new regs for importing dogs. Here’s why it says the rules could cause a “logjam” at the border.

Some changes to the CDC's August 1 2024 requirements for dogs entering the US; highlights include:

- removal of the requirement for CFIA to validate independently the veterinary certificates;
- removal of the requirements for a specific ISO microchip to be used;
- implementation of a Canada-specific form that will be valid as long as the rabies vaccination is valid.

Is our ability to pay attention less than a goldfish’s? If we believe at least some of the stories in the media, everybody’s attention span is shrinking . On the other hand, if you look a little more carefully there is no shortage of counterarguments, saying that no, in fact our attention spans ...

The outcome of CTA’s lobby campaign to root out the underground economy and bring back tax fairness and order in the trucking industry is the single most important factor impacting the future of the sector.

During the month of July, the trucking industry and the larger business community have an immediate opportunity to send a clear message to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and its Minister, the Honorable Marie-Claude Bibeau, that we’ve all had enough of the underground economy being allowed to proliferate and want law and order restored to the tax system.

Heads up, drivers with pets!

Unless an agreement can be reached, Canadians travelling with dogs may not be able to cross the American border come August.

Part of the CDC import form requires one section to be filled out by the dog's veterinarian, with an endorsement from an "official government veterinarian" in the exporting country.The Canadian Food and Inspection Agency, which would be the government agency to approve the CDC form, has said it's unable to offer the signoff.

"The CFIA recognizes the concerns and impact that the CDC requirements have on Canadians. We have shared this information with the CDC to support the development of a more streamlined process for Canadians." A CFIA spokesperson said they anticipate "more information to be available in the coming week" and encouraged dog owners to check the agency's website for updates.
