After such a horrible week for the comics community, I wanted to take a moment to focus on being thankful for some of my absolute favorite creators as well as the friends I've gained through this hobby. I want to call out a few people who have made life more enjoyable for me over the years (and in some cases, decades).
First, a big thank you to Erik Larsen, my absolute favorite cartoonist, for providing me with decades of (almost) month-in and month-out entertainment as well as being gracious enough to spend a few hours answering all of our d***y questions whenever we ask him to join us on the Savage Fincast Podcast. In no other hobby will you find creatives willing to mingle with their fans like in comics. I'm grateful for all the time Erik has shared with me/us. Erik's greenlighting of the SuperFreaks one-shot through Image is bucket list-type stuff that I will remember as long as I live.
Thanks to Michel Fiffe, Don Simpson, Tom Scioli, Gary Carlson and Chris Ecker, whose comics are beyond amazing and continue to blow my mind. I always look forward to flipping through (or viewing on my screen) the new comics and strips that you put out. Thank you for all of your insightful Facebook and Patron posts that fill my feeds and promote discussion and curiosity.
Thank you to my fellow Savage Fincast Podcast hosts, James Purcell, Raven Perez and Mark Welser, who I talk to almost every day-- even if it's just a short text here and there. I cherish the two hour podcast conversations we have had regularly for over 10 years. You guys are the best. I think about how Savage Dragon comics have forged so many friendships with people I would never have met otherwise. Thanks to everyone that ever joined in on a Fincast as well as the regular cast of characters that have always been around on the Savage Dragon discussion boards/forums/Facebook Fan pages. Our community of Finaddicts really is the best. I enjoy interacting with all of you.
So for everything sh*tty that comics fandom has displayed over the past few weeks, let's take some time to focus on the positives and highlight the awesome people involved in it while still learning from the past.
