"It’s said then that the Sun remains in its nest („päike on pesas”), and so should the people: snuggled up in their homes, with fires and candles lit, sharing the warmth with each other." With this, Dr. Kadri Tüür sets the scene for the time of year known in Estonian as Jõulud.

Once upon a time, four teenage girls from a village in southern Estonia (population: 33), came together to form Plixid. Known for their eccentric performances in the early 2000s, the band represents an iconic moment in Estonian feminist pop-punk history. Though their songs were eventually lost to time, their sound never faded from the Estonian public consciousness.

Now, around twenty years later, Estonian-born, LA-based electronic artist Maria Minerva (mariaminervvva )reintroduced Plixid to the world with a reissue of the group’s self-titled album.

Explore what Plixid represents for the Estonian underground music scene, then and now 👉🏼 https://eestielu.ca/maria-minerva-plixid-belongs-in-estonian-feminist-punk-history/

Igal inimesel on oma lugu. Toronto eestlase Anneli Andre Barretti elutee on olnud eriti põnev.

📜 kuidas tegutsemine PEN klubis on süvendanud armastust kirjanduse vastu
📜 miks on oluline arendada lastes lugemisharjumust

Recently, chef toivoheyduck and brewer Kalev Nisbet (hoptrocity) hosted an evening of beer and snacks for VEMU Estonian Museum Canada at Tartu College (tartucollege) . The event was a success and yielded a delicious multi-course meal, all of which incorporated beer brewed by Kalev at Godspeed Brewery.
