As piparkoogimaania's co-founder Mari-Liis Laanemaa says in Eesti Elu's latest article about their exhibition, "Gingerbread can be shaped and crafted in countless ways—imagination is the key to creating something truly unique. And if an experiment doesn’t turn out as planned, the gingerbread can always be eaten!"

As 2024 comes to a close and winter sets in, step into a world of fairytales brought to life through the sights, smells, and taste of gingerbread.

From intricate sculptures to fun workshops, this yearly Tallinn tradition is something you'll want to know about and take part in 👉 https://eestielu.ca/piparkoogimaania-where-gingerbread-becomes-art/

Mõned vanad eesti jõulutraditsioonid on läbi aegade edasi kantud, aga teised on võõrad. Näiteks 21. detsembri toomapäev märkis uue aasta algust. See oli võlgade tasumise aeg.

Elame tänapäeval natuke teisiti, kuid ehk on mõni nendest vanadest kommetest mida oleks huvitav taaselustada — avasta siit 👉 https://eestielu.ca/eesti-endistest-joulukommetest/

Rahvajõulupuu brought together so many wonderful community members. 💚 As tradition goes, there was singing, dancing, Estonian food, crafts and lots of laughter. Thank you, Estonian Foundation of Canada - Eesti Sihtkapital Kanadas for putting together this incredible celebration, year after year!

Nii mõnus on kogukonnaga koos pühi tähistada. Aitäh kõigile, kellega saime head sõna jagada. Järgmisel aastal jälle!

From 1500 dancers in 1934 to over 11 000 dancers in 2019, the Estonian Dance Celebration aka tantsupidu is one of those history books events. Mesmerizing patterns formed by thousands of folk dancers young and senior are a sight to see. And Toronto Estonians are hard at work to participate in the next Laulu- ja tantsupidu in 2025, held in Tallinn, Estonia from July 3-6.

TERR Kungla has held the tradition of folk dance alive in Canada and are continuing on the mission to represent diaspora Estonians at the laulu- and tantsupidu.

If you are looking to join a dance troupe, choir, a book club or any other Estonian-Canadian troupe, we have a one-stop resource for you on https://eestielu.ca/organizations/

Who to call, how to join - we've got it all covered.

It's thought that an Estonian, Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen, may have been the first to discover Antarctica in January 1820, on an expedition he led. But there's an Estonian-Canadian musician in Montréal who has shown an even deeper passion for the loneliest continent.

Read about Valmar Kurol and Michael Stibor's latest instrumental album, Shards from Antarctica, including the seasonal and scientific curiosities that inspired each of these songs, such as "moss piglets" and "green snow". 👉 https://eestielu.ca/a-passion-for-antarctica/
