Our Grade 8 students have been learning about various French-speaking countries around the world, such as Guadeloupe, Belgium and Senegal, all while exploring francophone culture. Today, we welcomed Amadou Kienou, a percussionist, to lead students in a one-hour drumming workshop, as they learned about music from Burkina Faso. Students took turns trying out the traditional African drums, and hearing the differences in tone between the wooden drums played with their hands and plastic buckets played with drumsticks.
