“No Dress Rehearsal” brought back a lot of memories. Gord started rehearsing “Secret Path” a few days after the final concert in Kingston and was only able to do a few live performances of the piece before he passed.

This pic popped up on my memories feed this morning.

As you know the Downie and Wenjack family started a charity - the Downie Wenjack Fund - which is dedicated to the memory of Chanie Wenjack and to the mission of truth and reconciliation for all First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. I’m proud to have been on the board since its founding.

If you are curious about the work, and how you or your organization can support us, please go to

The Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund aims to shine a light on Indigenous reconciliation and the history of residential schools in Canada.

Hi - I sort of hate Meta so never go on here - but wanted to share that there are two projects coming to TIFF that I worked on that are of interest to Canadian friends!

1. "The Knowing" is an epic series on Canadian history directed by Tanya Talaga and Courtney Montour.

2. "No Dress Rehearsal" is the story of the The Tragically Hip, directed by Mike Downie.

Both are really incredible series, will be widely available on CBC Docs and Amazon.ca in the fall - but you can can catch them first at the festival.

Universal healthcare is supposed to mean that everyone gets equitable access, treatment and care. But do we really?

From the Canadian Race Relations Foundation and hosted by Dr. Alika Lafontaine, The Healthcare Divide is a new podcast that exposes uncomfortable truths, troubling realities and innovative efforts to overcome racism in Canada’s healthcare system. The podcast takes an unflinching look at who gets left out in Canada’s “universal” quest for wellness, and what is being done to build a healthier, fairer future for all.

The Healthcare Divide is available wherever you get your podcasts. Episodes release weekly on Wednesdays. Check out the link in our bio.

In response to
Meta’s ongoing assault on democracy and the free press is going off this platform until the issue is resolved. It likely won’t do much - but if you care at all about the future of news we would encourage to do something similar. In meantime, a last post from the Stratford public library this week with some suggestions to fill your time. Since the headset wearing technotyrants in California don’t want us to have a sustainable local press you can bet there won’t be opportunities for local content and stories to be promoted. Support these authors while you can.
