We have updated our "MRI at 60" website to include the post-1963 Anglican Congress film, "The Rebirth of the Church," telling the story of the Congress. It is a fine film and good background for anyone contributing to or attending the CCHS-sponsored conference to mark the 60th anniversary of the 1963 Toronto Anglican Congress.

Video “Re-Birth of a Church: Anglican Congress 1963” is a record of the Toronto Anglican Congress of 12-23 August 1963. The film was made by Jack Chisholm Film Productions Ltd. of Toronto, and narr…

The Canadian Church Historical Society is advertising a three-year paid position for Editor of the Society's Journal. For details, see below:
Position Description
Editor, Journal of the Canadian Church Historical Society
Position: Editor, Journal of the Canadian Church Historical Society
Term: 3 years, renewable
Reports to: Canadian Church Historical Society Executive Committee
Relates to: the Editorial Board of the Journal of the Canadian Church Historical Society; The General Synod Archivist; The General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada; Council of General Synod; other professional bodies related to the study and publishing of Church History (i.e., the Historical Society of the Episcopal Church (HSEC), Episcopal Women's History Project (EWHP), National Episcopal Historians and Archivists (NEHA), and the Canadian Society of Church History (CSCH), etc.); authors; academic referees.
Supervises: contractors such as proofreaders and layout/design artists.
The editor is responsible for publishing at least one issue per year. Ideally, each issue should contain 2-3 academic articles of approximately 7500 words each, a selection of book reviews, conference reports, and occasional notes and queries. The mandate of the Journal is to publish peer-reviewed research on Canadian church history, and especially on the history of the Anglican Church of Canada. The criteria for book reviews is broader. Book reviews can be on any subject related to church history (not only in Canada)
The editor is responsible for receiving unsolicited manuscripts, assessing their relevance to the Journal’s publishing mandate and their literary merit, and making a decision either to reject the article or to send it out for peer review. Likewise, the editor may solicit prospective manuscripts (subject to peer review) deemed of interest to the mandate of the Journal. The editor may decide (often in consultation with the CCHS Executive Committee or Journal editorial board) to undertake “theme” issues.
The method of peer review used by the Journal and overseen by the editor is “double-blind.” The editor solicits a minimum of two reviewers who are academics of particular qualification and expertise in the area of the submission to referee the submission. The editor may seek a third review if there is a significant discrepancy on the merits of the article. The editor makes the final decision to publish.
The editor is responsible for overseeing the proofreading and layout and printing of the Journal.
The editor sits as a member of the CCHS Executive Committee.
From time to time the editor will be responsible for participating in the organizing of conferences, colloquia, and other events organized by the CCHS and arrange for the review and publication of the proceedings of these events in a special issue of the Journal.
Remuneration is $2500.oo per issue. Expenses will also be paid for the editor to attend appropriate conferences to solicit papers.
Qualifications: the editor will hold a graduate degree in an appropriate field. Experience in editing and publishing academic writing is desirable.
Deadline date for application: The executive aims to begin considering applications 15 January 2024; applications will be open until an appointment is made.
Submit applications or enquiries to [email protected]
