7 years ago, I wanted to create something for people in the LGBTQ community to help them feel empowered and supported during the arduous process of "coming out." Kim Katrin a Q***r Black activist from The People Project, took my idea and made it better. Her insight and life experience shone light on the blind spots I had. It made this video even better and even MORE inclusive than it already is. My point? As open-minded, LGBTQ-positive, racially-inclusive as you may be...you can still stand to learn a few things from people who have walked a different walk. Kim is one of the many black lives in my life that matter to me. Some of them are even in this video. My life has been and continues to be enriched by them. - Derek
