OPC is *enormously proud* to welcome director Sophia Smith [] to our roster for commercial representation worldwide!
 
A performance-comedy filmmaker based in Toronto, Sophia brings a modern take to a classic genre. Her performance-driven character studies explore the ways in which people act unapologetically like themselves. Inspired by tension, honesty between strangers, selfishness and unbridled confidence - Sophia’s storytelling lives inside unguarded human moments… and never pulls a punch 🔥
 
Narratively, Sophia’s short films LOLA and MOMMY both featured in Shots and were awarded Vimeo Staff Picks. MOMMY premiered on Nowness, screened at NoBudge, and was programmed at independent cinemas in LA and NY. These films encapsulate two thirds of a trio of shorts from Sophia, exploring the throes of communication and intimacy – the third of which is currently in post-production. 
 
Commercially, Sophia has worked with brands including AIRB, Full House Lottery, Give Life Alberta, and Lululemon.
 
We have supported and borne witness to Sophia’s rapid growth as a filmmaker, and couldn’t be happier to launch her directorial career at OPC ❤️

Our discussion this year will concern itself with trusting in the process, as we explore the importance of placing trust in one another in a bid to navigate the complex task of turning a client brief into a sparkling and engaging film.

Jason will be joined by John Rocco (Global Marketing Head: Scotiabank/Tangerine), Jay Chaney (Partner/CSO at Broken Heart Love Affair), Francesco Grandi (CCO of Ogilvy Canada) and celebrated directors Natalie Rae and Miles Jay, with each providing a perspective on what it takes to get great work made.

OPC is proud to share that DAUGHTERS, the debut feature documentary from directors Natalie Rae and Angela Patton, will premiere in-competition at 2024.

DAUGHTERS follows four young girls as they prepare for a social Daddy Daughter Dance with their incarcerated fathers, as part of a unique fatherhood program in a Washington, D.C. jail.
