🌹 Our Lady of the Rosary 🌹

Did you know that the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary on October 7th has its origins in the Christian victory at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571? Saint Pius V attributed this triumph to the power of praying the rosary. Over the centuries, this devotion has evolved, with the rosary helping us meditate on the key moments of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection.

Through the repetition of prayers, we are invited to journey deeper into the mysteries of our salvation, uniting with Mary in reflecting on the life of her Son, Jesus. 🙏

The rosary remains a beautiful and simple way to find peace, hope, and strength in God’s plan for our lives. ✨

Statement by the Most Rev. William T. McGrattan,
Bishop of Calgary and CCCB President,
to the Catholic Faithful in Canada,
inviting them to pray and fast for peace.

During this month of October dedicated to Mary, and especially today on the Feast of Our Lady of the
Rosary, at a time when there continues to be so much violence between peoples and nations in the Middle
East (and elsewhere), I invite all Catholics in Canada to take up Pope Francis’ invitation to pray and fast
for peace.
Prayer is a most powerful instrument, capable of healing division, changing hearts, opening minds, and
bringing new beginnings to situations which seem impossible. Mary, who bears the title Queen of Peace, is
a powerful intercessor who, likewise desiring peace among all peoples and nations, brings our prayers and
petitions to God and makes them more effective.
Fasting, in this context, provides a special way by which to join ourselves to the suffering of others, in
solidarity with them, as well as to the sufferings endured by Christ during his Passion and Crucifixion. We
may think, as we fast, of the many forms of human suffering that are associated with war and all forms of
violence, and thereby strengthen the earnestness and concreteness of our prayers.
As we pray and fast for peace, let us also seek in our own lives to become instruments of peace wherever
we live, taking inspiration from the beautiful and famous poem of Saint Francis of Assisi, “Lord, make me
an instrument of your peace.” It is in welcoming dialogue, embracing forgiveness, and supporting efforts
to foster justice and reconciliation, that such steps help to create a society where all people can flourish in
the way that God intended.

“I am humbled and honoured to receive this appointment from the Holy Father. I pray and rely on the prayers of the faithful in Toronto that I will be a worthy servant of the Lord Jesus in fulfilling my responsibilities as a member of the College of Cardinals and to continue in my primary role as shepherd of the faithful of the Archdiocese of Toronto. The book of Revelation tells us about a great wonder that appeared in the sky: a woman clothed with the Sun, with the Moon under Her feet, and on Her head a crown of twelve stars.

The 12 stars represent the 12 mysteries of her life before, during and after the life of Her Son. The Mariam mysteries of the rosary show how Her Life was intertwined with the life of Jesus Her Son.

The director of Radio Maria Canada, Fr. Jorge Amaro, invites us to meditate on the life of Jesus through the life of Mary to become a true disciple of Her Son.

Listen LIVE at 11am for weekly episodes starting in:

Dove è odio, fa’ che io porti l’amore.
Dove è offesa, che io porti il perdono.
Dove è discordia, che io porti l’unione.
Dove è dubbio, che io porti la fede.
Dove è errore, che io porti la verità.
Dove è disperazione, che io porti la speranza.
Dove è tristezza, che io porti la gioia.
Dove sono le tenebre... che io porti la luce.

🌿 Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi 🌿

Every year on October 4th, Catholics worldwide celebrate St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, the environment, and Italy. Born into wealth in 1181, St. Francis chose a life of simplicity and service, founding the Franciscan Order to aid the poor. His love for nature earned him the title of patron saint of ecology in 1979.

In Italian American communities, this day holds deep cultural significance, with masses, processions, and the “Blessing of the Animals” to honor St. Francis’s compassion for all creatures. 🌍🐾

📜 The Story of the Feast of the Guardian Angels ✨

The Feast of the Guardian Angels celebrates the comforting belief that each person has an angel protecting and guiding them throughout life. Rooted in Scripture, particularly Matthew 18:10, the tradition teaches that guardian angels represent us before God, support our prayers, and guide our souls to Him at death. This devotion grew through monasticism, with Saint Benedict and Saint Bernard of Clairvaux promoting it. The feast was first celebrated in the 16th century, and in 1615, Pope Paul V added it to the Roman calendar.

Guardian angels are a reminder of God’s constant care and protection for all.

HE BARBARIANS’ WORLDVIEW
Despite lagging more than 2000 years behind the Greco-Roman cultural development and civilization, the Germanic peoples contributed to medieval Europe with their values of autonomy, independence, and freedom, based on the principle that we are all equal in dignity.

📖 Honoring Saint Jerome: Scholar, Translator, and Doctor of the Church 📖

Saint Jerome dedicated his life to the Word of God, becoming one of the most influential figures in the Church's history. He translated the Bible into Latin, known as the Vulgate, so it could be easily understood by the common people. His commitment to study, prayer, and truth shaped the Church and its teachings for centuries.

As we reflect on Saint Jerome’s life of faith, let us be inspired to deepen our love for Scripture and seek a closer relationship with God through study and prayer. 🙏💫
