▫️WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A MODEL?

“I used to watch Fashion TV with my mom, just watching all the weird but cool 90’s-early 2000’s fashion. By the time I was 11 years old I knew I wanted to become a model. I thought I could be as bad ass as Naomi Campbell; maybe even walk the runway with her. I recall telling some kids in middle school that I would one day be a Supermodel as well. At 19 years old I met my Mother Agent, Peggi LePage. She saw the vision within me, and the potential. So here I still stand today, enjoying my beautiful career, but still seeing if I can make it to that supermodel level.“

▫️WHAT’S YOUR MOST PRIZED POSSESSION AND WHY?

“I think my most prized possession has to be myself and my health; I’ve witnessed how short life can be, so I honestly want to just enjoy all of it. Not to stress over the small things that don’t matter, because you’ll look back at them and see how insignificant it was. So as my own prized possession, I try to stay happy and of course healthy.”

▫️WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A MODEL?

“I wanted to become a model because growing up I never saw anyone who looked like me in any ads or commercials and I wanted to change that so others girls don’t feel the same way I did growing up.”

▫️IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT THE FASHION INDUSTRY, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

“I think every store should offer short and tall options. I always struggle to find pants long enough while I have friends who need to role their jeans 6 times.“

▫️IF YOU COULD GIVE AN ASPIRING MODEL ANY ADVICE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

“Patience. Patience is going to be your best friend in this industry. There are gonna be many times in your modelling career where you feel like you are not moving as fast as you wish you were, but having patience and not rushing your career will really help you out. Take your time and work hard, do anything that can help yourself in this world (social media, networking, build your brand...etc). You don’t make it overnight in this industry, but with some patience and hard work your chances are way higher. As well as the amount of waiting a model has to do on set and in many other situations, patience will be your best friend.“

▫️WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A MODEL?

“I have always had an interest in the fashion world and industry. When I was younger I noticed myself slowly starting to find an interest in models and the lives they live and eventually started following some famous supermodels, but I never saw that life for myself originally. I was scouted when I was 15 years old and was shocked when I was asked to model and sign with an agency. Immediately after that my interests in modelling grew and I eventually found myself studying the history of fashion and deep diving into the lives of past supermodels in my spare time. The more experience I had in modelling each year, the more passionate I became. 7 years later I am still here doing what I love and I hope it continues for the years to come.”

▫️HOW DID YOU BECOME A MODEL?

“I grew up in a really small town in BC called Summerland, and I have always dreamt of being a supermodel. I knew Toronto would be the next step to do so, but living there is very expensive. I decided to move to Calgary first where there was cheaper housing and found a little serving job. I managed to save as much money as I could, and then when regulations were lifted I spontaneously moved to Toronto with nothing but my suitcase and a guitar. I started serving at a new restaurant downtown near Union Station and the woman who was training me (also a model) introduced me to her modelling agent, Christopher Massardo. Ever since signing with Massardo Model Management I have never looked back. Completely changed my life.“

▫️WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A MODEL?

“I wanted to become a model because I really wanted to improve my confidence, I wanted to meet new people and explore the world while doing it.“

▫️WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A MODEL?

"When I was young, I’d walk in my mom’s heels... Up and down the hallway... channeling my inner “Cindy". Since then, I’ve always been completely fascinated by fashion and the modelling industry. I love reading fashion magazines, watching the shows online, and seeing how fashion changes with culture and the seasons."

▫️IF YOU COULD GIVE AN ASPIRING MODEL ANY ADVICE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

"If I could give advice to aspiring models... it would be to stay focused. Treat modelling like a job, and always be ready from the tip of your head ... to your toes. Travel as much as you can … while you can… because being back at home now, and married with a son, I am extremely grateful for the the places I have seen and the experiences fashion has given me."

▫️WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A MODEL?

“I became a model because of my mom; she always told me these fantastic stories about her time in the field, inspiring me to follow along.”

▫️WHAT ARE YOU SUPER INTERESTED IN THAT MOST PEOPLE HAVE NEVER HEARD OF?

“Something that I’m interested in that only a few people have heard about is anthropology. Though it’s a well-known subject, it’s commonly misunderstood; it’s the study of culture and time. I study anthropology at UofT (University of Toronto) and hope to work as a museum curator, as anthropology covers archeology, biology, evolution and nutrition. The study follows how we evolve mentally and biologically, all intertwined with culture and its effects.”

▫️WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A MODEL?

“The idea of modelling had always lingered in my mind. Friends, family, and even strangers frequently hinted that I should consider it. What truly drew me in were the exciting aspects of the industry: the opportunity to travel, meet new people, collaborate creatively, and the thrill of every new photoshoot. These are the things that have continued to captivate me about modelling.

However, there’s a deeper motivation behind my choice to become a model. It’s about representing the Asian community and becoming a role model for other Asians. In my formative years, I noticed a distinct lack of relatable role models who looked like me. The media often perpetuated stereotypes that portrayed Asian men as less attractive and less masculine. Growing up, I experienced firsthand the weight of these stereotypes, and I witnessed my Asian friends facing similar challenges, if not worse.

From a young age, I held a strong desire to make a meaningful impact and serve as a positive example. I wanted to challenge these stereotypes and demonstrate that Asian individuals can be strong, confident, and attractive in their own unique ways. This commitment to breaking boundaries and inspiring change is what fuels my passion for modelling to this day.”

▫️WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A MODEL?

“My mom originally went to fashion school in the late 70’s, early 80’s in London, UK. Whenever she’d tell me stories about the models, designers and runway shows she met or worked with, I knew that I wanted fashion to be a part of my life in some way. I’ve always felt that models are a beautiful piece of a creative puzzle. They help other creatives like makeup artists, designers and stylists bring their stories to life. I loved the idea of being able to tell a story, visually. As I got older, models like Beverly Peele, Naomi Campbell, Iman, Alek Wek and Grace Jones became some of my biggest inspirations. I loved the history they made as darker skinned, black models in the industry. They showed the world that black was beautiful. I knew that I wanted to continue to inspire a new generation of women and men to embrace their skin in beautiful ways.”

▫️IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT THE FASHION INDUSTRY, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

The lack of diversity and representation. I’ve always seen fashion and the industry as a whole, both incredibly inclusive and an exclusive community too. In some ways, it is a beautiful opportunity for creatives from all walks of life to express themselves and find community through clothing/fashion, creative direction and self-expression. However, in many other ways there are so many things that need to change. I believe that the industry should reflect the world around us because we all live our lives in clothing. I want the fashion industry to INTENTIONALLY hire and highlight people of different body types, races (especially dark skinned folks), gender expressions, etc. We all deserve to see ourselves in the media and I still believe the industry lacks this.

I was fascinated by how the models brought life to clothing, and my interest in modelling started there."

▫️WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A MODEL?

“At the age of 15, I was inspired by the sight of a male model at Pickering Tone Centre and it sparked my interest in the modeling industry. From that moment on, I knew that I had the potential to excel in this field and showcase fashion pieces with poise and elegance. My passion for modelling has only grown stronger ever since, and I have dedicated myself to perfecting my craft and achieving success in this competitive industry."

▫️WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A MODEL?

“I love FASHION. I love the madly creative and ever-evolving nature of the fashion industry. And it is not OK to not be a part of it. I always believe Fashion is not just about clothing; it's a form of self-expression and what we wear reflects our cultural identity, values and desires. Fashion is also a form of fine art. As a person who started painting at an early age, over the years I was not only influenced by great painters but also great designers, such as Hussein Chalayan, Vivienne Westwood, Rei Kawakubo... I learned a good artist should be daring, push boundaries and challenge norms. And being a model gives me the opportunity to be a part of this fascinating industry and brings me closer to those creative minds. I had my reasons to start modelling. And ever since I started, there are a million more reasons to keep modelling: the beautiful souls I encountered at work, the mind-opening trips my work took me, the confidence I built... I am very grateful for the journey modelling has taken me on."

▫️WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A MODEL?

“I became a model because my mother was a model when I was growing up and I always aspired to be like her. The CEO of my mother agency (LeDrew Models), Cathy LeDrew, was my moms agent when Ford was still in Toronto, and so I have known her for a good portion of my life and decided to try and pursue a career in modelling at the age of 24. I came late in the game but have proven successful. I love the fashion industry and everything to do with it but i especially love being in front of the camera hehe and thats why I chose modelling :)"

▫️IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT THE FASHION INDUSTRY, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

"The rude, stuck up, non-inclusive attitude thats seems to come along with it."

▫️WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A MODEL?

“Modelling wasn’t really on my mind even though I always got the comment that I should be one. I didn’t grow up wanting to be a model. I was really focused on keeping up with my two older brothers, which meant playing a variety of sports including skateboarding, street hockey, surfing, football, Taekwondo, and riding motorcycles. During my early teens, a friend of my mom’s came for a visit and suggested I do modeling. She thought it was something I would do well in, and that I should take it into consideration. Later that year my mom set up an appointment with the amazing Janelle from Morgan Model Management, and that’s where this journey started. For me, it took a few years to get the hang of it. I wasn’t the most confident in myself or my work, but with time, I got better and more confident. I practiced my poses, watched others, and started traveling. I’m so grateful for the journey so far. It hasn’t been an easy journey for me, but I’m so happy I had the opportunity. I’m thankful for those who believed in me, invested in me, and saw the potential in me, even during the times I was struggling with different aspects of modeling. Now, I’m at a place where I can say I’m loving it, even the difficult times. That’s how I started modeling. It’s not always been easy or perfect, but I didn’t give up."

▫️WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A MODEL?

“I’m not sure that I ever really thought about becoming a model! It just seemed to happen. I was already 5’10 and half at age 12. At 14 years old I was playing in my front lawn when I was « discovered « . I had never even considered modeling but my parents thought that perhaps it would help my confidence if I gave it a shot. I was very shy and conscious of my height and freckles. I quickly met Elmer Olsen and he entered me in The Elite Look of the year at 15. I won for Canada and came 2nd in the international competition later that year. I just went with the flow from there! I spent my summers accompanied by my Mum in New York and Europe. I moved to Paris the day after I graduated high school and stayed for 26 years! Modeling internationally until I was 38. I stopped for a couple of years to teach Art and English and be home for my daughters. We recently moved to Canada and I decided to give modeling another shot! Why not?! I definitely miss working with creative, passionate people and I miss traveling!"

▫️IF YOU COULD GIVE AN ASPIRING MODEL ANY ADVICE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

"Don’t take things personally!! This is a very competitive industry and it’s based a lot on your physical appearance. Don’t let comments on your body change your view of yourself! Your self esteem and your confidence are your super power. Just because you didn’t have the look for a particular job doesn’t mean that you aren’t exactly what they’re looking for for the next project."

▫️WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A MODEL?

"To be completely honest, modeling was never on my career trajectory. I had my heart set on basketball from a very young age. Don't get me wrong—I loved fashion and taking pictures, but it never really clicked to me that I could or should be a model. Unfortunately, the summer after graduating high school, I got sick with cancer and lost my hair, which later turned out to be a blessing in disguise. It changed everything for me. My friend was already in the modeling scene, and everyone around me was telling me I should really give it a try. The best thing I did was finding an agency online after numerous failed attempts to get signed, and that kickstarted my career to where it is today.

I fell in love with dressing up and telling a brand's story through their clothing. Also, mixing traveling and meeting new people, some of the things I truly enjoy, all in one has been really amazing and I love it."

▫️WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A MODEL?

Becoming a model has always been a very big dream of mine since I can remember. I’ve always loved fashion. For me, fashion is so tightly intertwined with self-expression and I love that. I love the way that clothes can make you feel. The creative aspect of fashion is so empowering.

My biggest reason for wanting to work within the modelling world is because as an indigenous person, I grew up feeling that because of my racial identity I would never be able to take up space in industries like modelling. As I’ve gotten older, my views on this have changed. I don’t want the younger generations to feel like they can't achieve success because they are indigenous. People like me can be and will be successful in these spaces. I want to be a part of this change.

▫️WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A MODEL?

“When I was a child, my mom was always very interested in fashion, even having her own clothing line at one point. Because she was always looking at fashion magazines and watching Fashion Television (if you know, you know!) by default I developed an interest in fashion as well. This eventually developed into me designing my own clothes as a child and exploring with my own style as a teenager. Once the opportunity came up to be a model, the natural curiosity towards the industry was already there. I was a bit uncertain at first, but am so glad with how modelling has consistently pulled me out of my comfort zone, pushed me to grow in so many unexpected ways, and exposed me to people and places I would’ve never otherwise encountered. The desire to be involved in art and creating was the initial pull, but this career has given me so much more than I’d ever expected.”
