Sunday March 23rd at 6pm -AN EPISODE ABOUT HOME-Home is one of humanity’s oldest obsessions—it’s memory, identity, a dream. From Roman villas to tent cities, from castles to cabins, home has always been a reflection of who we are. It’s warmth, like Leon Bridges’ “Coming Home,” or escape, like The Beatles’ “She’s Leaving Home.” It’s chaos in “Burning Down the House” or nostalgia in “Going Home.” Some homes are lost, some are found, and some exist only in song. Tonight, through music, we explore the homes we build, the ones we leave, the ones we inhabit, and the ones we carry with us, wherever we go. Maybe, in the end, home isn’t just a house—it’s a feeling, a story, a song, and a privilege we should never take for granted.

Join me for a special edition of Zoomer Crooners & Songbirds this Sunday at 6PM honouring the life and achievements of the late great award winning manager, catalyst, A&R rep MARY MARTIN. (And my second cousin)
While Martin's importance to American music history cannot be overstated, it is her unique personality and unrestrained manner that have made her such a beloved behind-the-scenes legend in music industry circles from coast to coast.
From Toronto, she moved to NYC with $60 in her pocket and crashed with a friend.
She worked from 1962-2002 in NYC with Albert Grossman and then running her own management company. Then she moved to work as A&R at Warner LA, and after to Nashville in management and as VP of A&R at Mercury.
MARY MARTIN is responsible for managing and or breaking Leonard Cohen, Van Morrison, Emmylou Harris, Bob Dylan, Vince Gill, Bonnie Raitt and many more. She fought hard for her artists as if they were her children.

"My life would look very different without Mary Martin." -Emmylou Harris

Elizabeth Ashley, an actress and longtime friend of Mary's, described her. "Mary was like a commander; she was eccentric and beautiful and funny and smart and generous and take-no-prisoners and difficult and complicated.”

Summing up her career, Mary said, “just being a catalyst, there's a real important role there. And I'm good at that…I'm Fate's right-hand gal."

Mary was my second cousin, she was an untouchable legend in our family.
I went to Nashville in 2015 and had lunch with her and hung at her home.

She lived alone with her cat, ate butter like cheese (like my mom), chain smoked, shamelessly dropped F bombs and is a survivor of a break and enter, robbery and sexual assault of a stranger.
She co-founded YOU HAVE THE POWER the nonprofit organization that empowers victims of crime through information, advocacy, understanding and resources.
"In the case of r**e, your spirit is murdered, and it's important to learn that if you don't talk about it, you don't heal." - Mary Martin. Donations here: https://donorbox.org/support-yhtp

Join me Sunday at 6pm for music and discussion with musicologist Mike Daley to hear about her life and contribution to the great music we all love.

May this be inspiration to Canadians and women to trust your gut, keep the faith and to fight for what you believe in.

Mary was fierce. A badass. A legend.
🙏🏻

Join Lily Frost for a special Hanukkah feature of FEMALE CANTORS on Zoomer Crooners & Songbirds, Sunday December 10th at 6PM Est. on Zoomer Radio.

From Rosenblatt to Spiro to some of Toronto's leading female cantor's of today, I will delve into what Cantorial music is and what prevented women from singing it in the past.

You will hear interesting interviews and beautiful music from cantorial soloists Aviva Chernick and Lindi Rivers, ordained cantor Paula Baruch as well as cantor and professor Simon Spiro.

We will listen to how this intricately ornamental, Jewish sacred music sounds traditionally and how it has made its way into some more familiar original greatest hits and even a new musical movie called Less Than Kosher featuring Shaina Silver Baird and her exciting, modern rendition of Avinu Malkeinu.

Tune in to Zoomer Radio 6PM Sunday Dec. 10th EST.

TONIGHT ON ZOOMER a RADIO at 6PM
😬NARCISSISM😬🧛🏽‍♀️🧛🧛‍♂️
It's a buzz word these days -an increasingly new collective awareness.
There is a spectrum to narcissism. But, to be a victim of someone with serious NPD (narcissistic personality disorder) can be dangerous and traumatizing.
Many artists have written about this.
Most of them women.
My guest Dr. Shulamit Mor is a clinical psychologist and will be in studio with me to discuss.

In both Ovid's and Pausanias' versions of Narcissus, Narcissus dies by a pool gazing at his own reflection that he falls in love with. He has no concern about anything around him nor does he eat or sleep. He takes his last dying breath by himself and dies by the image that he will never have but so badly desires.

We will discuss what narcissism is, where it comes from, what are the red flags, how it manifests, what damage a Narc can inflict on a victim, addiction to toxic people, enablers, how social media can play into it, how to protect, exit and heal from NPD abuse. Also, I'll play songs on this topic by classic and current artists.

This special edition of Zoomer Crooners and Songbirds on Narcissism this Sunday at 6PM on ZoomerRadio https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=yqjIqQqXsCM

My next show on Zoomer Crooners & Songbirds is about Utopia.
The Greek word actually meant no-where but Thomas Mores satire from 1516 delved into a new society loosely comparable to a socialist monastery.
People has mused on ideas around Utopia for centuries. People thought it was a real place as they did with Plato's Atlantis.

Auroville is a living utopian society in southern India. It's an experimental city that has functioned since 1968 when it was founded by guru and occultist Mirra Alfassa, known since then as “The Mother.” The city's physical beauty is comparable only with the beauty of its ideological foundations. See link below.

The annual Burning Man festival, while not a utopia per se, rehearses a utopian ideology based on anarchism which temporarily claims no leader or money but each individual bearing responsibility for self and toward others. And leaves no footprint when the festival ends. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burning_Man

Utopia requires collective belief. The problem is that humans tend to be selfish and greedy.
As my guest Jeremy Gilbert's notes, we also need incentives which may be why communism has not been successful.

The hippy movement preached peace and love and made a difference in some people's minds which refracted into the future but failed in its goals to end war.

Is Utopia even possible? Is it just a possible light at the end of the tunnel?

Margaret Atwood recently taught an eight-week course, “Practical Utopias,” on Disco, an online learning platform in Canada. She offers proposals for “real, better living plans that could actually work” (and “not sci-fi epics or fantasies,” the syllabus stated) included amphibious houses built on stilts, high-end cuisine from food waste, making leather out of mushrooms, h**p clothing, and lowering the voting age to 14 to bolster democracy. Everyone will take a first-aid course and, starting at the public school level, everyone will learn conflict resolution, anger management and elementary carpenter skills. More info here:

Others like David Suzuki, Greta Thunberg and Jane Goodall are leading us toward hope and out of our Dystopian pop culture mindset such as the zombie apocalypse which possibly led us into this burning hell we are trying to navigate currently.
As we know, all unreal creations such as the light bulb and flight were "crazy" notions before they became common practice.
It all starts with a vision. As laid out clearly by John Lennon and Yoko Ono in their song Imagine.

Heaven can be a place after we die or it can be a way we live. It really depends what we believe.

My friend Jeremy Gilbert, photographer and friend are I no experts but we will chat about songs and ideas around the concept of Utopia on Zoomer Radio on Sunday August 27th at 6PM.

German/Canadian classical conductor, raw milk farmer and activist who is willing to die for his beliefs, Michael Schmidt is my featured guest on Zoomer Crooners & Songbirds this Sunday August 13th at 6PM.
I went to his farm in Glencolton Ontario to discuss his unique values based on esotericist Rudolph Steiner's theory of Anthroposophy.
The show features commentary on raw milk and why Michael believes it's more beneficial to our health than pasteurized milk and why he is fighting for the human right to choose what we put in our body. He has been arrested many times and incarcerated but that will not stop him.
This show will be our conversation interwoven with some pieces of music he conducts on his property at Symphony in The Barns and more. ZoomerRadio Glencolton Farms Raymond Emes
