REPRESENTATION

I was unknowingly (at the time) involved in a process where a US manager (small company) leveraged 3 of my clients self tapes to garner a $100,000 USD/ PER EPISODE contract, for a series small recurring/regular on major network show...

The manager later told me how the convo went...

-this was after we taped for a guest star spot on that show, which they didn't get btw, a month later production came with this...-

Production..."we love so and so and we would LOVE to have them on the show"...

Manager..."Awesome!! It'll be 100k per ep...

Production..."are you crazy, they have practically ZERO RESUME...

Manager..."you called us...I will send you their last 3 self tapes... see, for that talent we need this much money to justify the position you are asking from our client. We will get that SOMEWHERE....

Production...Ughhh let us think about it.

Manager...Great!

Hangs up.

Casting Director calls Manager...

CD...what happened??

Manager...What do you mean?

CD... Why are you asking for so much money??

Manager... let me send you their last 3 self tapes...

CD...are you crazy?

Manager...You called us...

A short time later, the offer came in...

HOWEVER, my client already landed something much better lmao and turned it down :(

Setting yourself up for success..

You know how many times actors tell me they feel bad for saying no to an audition...lol... FEEL BAD??? LMAOOOOOO

Lets put it in perspective...

The arts professions are basically a slave labour system, with the minuscule opportunity of being able to make a living one day...That is the dangled carrot...

I have seen breakdowns where casting requested over 1000 self tapes for ONE BREAKDOWN... with a 3 day turn around

1000 actors x 3 days = 3000 man days (not man hours) of free creative energy and work for a single breakdown! That is 8000 man hours per day, 24000 man hours over 3 days...

24,000 man hours....for nothing... at minimum wage that would be $360,000 of work... for NOTHINGGGGGGG... DO YOU SEE???? What happens to ALL THOSE IDEAS??? HMMM

A casting directors clout, is based on who can get the most free work from the most top actors...lol. That is their JOB...

Many of my clients turn auditions down regularly. In fact I'd say the actors who turn down the most, also work the most, ironically..

I can't tell you how much more effective auditions become when actors are right for the role, on a regular basis. NIGHT & DAY

They told him he wasn't ready. He had other plans :)

Dissatisfied with his opportunities in Toronto, Lamar packed up and went to LA in 2017, and voila. Lol, now there's obviously a lot of details and thought that went into that plan, but at the end of the day, Lamar didn't have work papers, didn't have a huge resume, didn't have his local agents blessing, but STILL found the right people to work with, because he knew he would. That's the moral of the story. Lamar had a vision, and found the right people to work with. Period. For all intents and purposes, it was 1 person. Just a person. The right person. Not a big company, but the right comapny. The right company...hmm. The right company, is where success happens. Finding someone who a)understands the nuances of you, and b)has enough balls to set you up properly, is the first, and BIGGEST STEP of your career. Its a people business, and It's called representation for a reason. This may be 1 person your whole career, or multiple people as your career evolves. Who ever you are, there is someone out there dying to make a difference in your life, if you let them. Is that happening for you? How far are you willing to go to find right comapny?😍😍😍

Sometimes you don't have to move the mountain, if you just move your feet! (I'm sure somebody has said that before lol)😲😲😲

Thanks to everyone who tuned in to our 1st episode of BOOKED: Actors Tonight!

A great conversation with Lamar Johnson, hopefully shed a little light into his process. The awesome thing for me about Lamar, is his willingness to listen to the voice in his head and gut, the impulse, and ride it, without it being a big deal, what so ever. He just is, and lets it be. If you notice, his takes are NEVER clean, or certain, he allows himself to search and find, search and find, and breathe. His personality is such, that even when Lamar makes a statement, it still feels like he's asking a question, because his natural curiosity is shining through. I watch him a lot and no matter what we are playing, Lamar's curiosity shines through. A sellable human trait that never gets old. And he knows it lol. Along with his smile, and charisma.

To get cheaper labor he would go to South America and help emmigrate skilled labor and their families to Canada. Pablo apparently heard about this and wanted to meet my dad...of course. There are a number of reasons I don't publicly talk about my past. Mainly fear. Not fear of anybody, or fear of dying, but fear of wasting my time. I expect most people to not understand me, and I'm quite okay with that. You may know me as PJ. In fact I'd bet 100 dollars that you know me as PJ. If you knew me by anything other than that, that'd be weird. I know me as PJ. Pretty much always have. Except....that is not my name. PJ is the name that WHITE PRIVELEGE gave me. My name is Predrag Lazic. 1st generation . The short form for this name is Pedja, a 2 syllable word that sounds exactly like the letters PJ. Another 2 syllable word. Thanks to my kindergarten teachers for that one. Pedja was not gonna cut it. PJ. Or pajamas. Your choice. Or p**s J as my sister sometimes calls me. Not ONCE in my entire scholastic life did ANY teacher ever attempt to use my name. That is WHITE PRIVELEGE. Not even accidentally. In recent years some folks call me Pedja, and I admit I have to look around first to see who they're talking to. No thats just the name on my Canadian birth certificate. Etobicoke General in fact. I learned a loooooong time ago that people were going to call me everything except what I actually was. Its still that way. My first two best friends were Bobby and Rondale. A brown kid, and a black kid. Bobby was not his name either. We were the minorities in the class so naturally we hung out. Why is that natural? Talking about with my . His heart is in the right place, which is why the discussion of vs is EXTREMELY important as its ever been!! The house on fire analogy seems to be an eye opener...all houses matter but when there's a fire they don't send the fire dept to all houses. They go directly to the HOUSE ON FIRE. 🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤ Disclaimer...I don't agree with some of my dads archaic reasoning however, the fact that he is archaic and still has a deeply rooted understanding of equality also says something. Its not rocket science.
