NEW RELEASE feat. MIXING/DRUMS by SONIC MONKEY RECORDING!!!

Ken Gildner (co-host of the Sloan-approved podcast ) is back with a studio cover of their song 'Worried Now'!!! This release is to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their classic 1994 album Twice Removed. Over here I've been particularly feeling 's tracks with the band lately, so was more than happy to oblige!

I handled the drums, mixing and some bgvs, while Ken put down the rest.

Have you heard our latest release yet? It's a new single from Brad Martel entitled TO GO ELECTRIC!!!

Somewhat unintentionally aptly titled, this is a decidedly more rockin offering from an artist who debuted with a poignant acoustic EP. It's a showcase for Brad (and Sonic Monkey Recording), handling all instruments, vocals, recording and mixing.

Mastering was done to great effect by Topon Das at Apartment 2 Recording.

Let's switch it up with a throwback. I did share this video here before, but it's had an interesting life since then.....

Somehow, this easygoing drum playthrough video I did for Television's song 'See No Evil' replaced the band's studio version off the album on youTube Music. I started seeing it getting 100ish plays a day and took awhile to decipher why. Now it's up to over 10,000 views with quite a few nice comments and thumbs up, i.e. no one was complaining, i.e. that must count for something!!!

This was just a fun activity I did in tribute to their frontman who passed away. But also a good exercise in mixing my drum track to fit seamlessly with the rest of the band on their recording. The drum audio was recorded with a 6 microphone setup, over a drumless copy of Television's album version.

Of course the point of all this is for you to record something with me! This was shot on a phone, but collabs with camera people are welcome!

This one got some decent coverage, but here is the only place I haven't posted it. Wow, that really shows how little I was updating this page at the time. (ICYMI, I'm making this and IG my main pages for awhile rather than my website.)

It's 'Dear Empathy', the latest single from Brad Martel. This marked the milestone of releasing a song entirely written, recorded, mixed and performed on all instruments by yours truly. Again, if you missed it elsewhere, now you know :)

Going to try focusing Monkey visibility to social media rather than a website for the next while. So you may be seeing things over the coming weeks you already heard about elsewhere (I had stopped updating this page for a bit). But if you didn't know about them, check it out!

A game developer reached out to SMR wanting me to record live drums for some soundtrack music. I didn't do any mixing on this, but I performed and tracked these live drums and he did the rest. There are 5 more tracks I feature on and 30 more tracks overall for you to seek out if you enjoy this!

It is one of my favorite recording processes and most unique music I've done thus far, so with no further ado......
