Insomnia Radio Canada

Insomnia Radio Canada IR Canada is a musical podcast hosted by Chris. This podcast features nothing but great Canadian music! In 2009 a friend convinced her to listen to The Bugcast.

Join us on patreon at: pateron.com/IRCanada Chris is an amateur musician, trying to learn the basics of too many instruments. She volunteered to help teach band instruments at a local school for several years. A music podcast that airs every Friday night. From there she was hooked. Listening to several p

odcasts, until the day she asked one host if he'd take recommendations for his show. This lead to her doing a small segment on The Justin Wayne show every few weeks. A while later (late August 2012) she received an email from Stuart. He asked to to join the Insomnia Radio Family, and be the Host of Insomnia Radio Canada. Chris herself took an interest in music at a very young age. Her youngest aunt started to teach her piano when she quite young. Through school she join many coral groups, learned recorder, clarinet, flute, piccolo, as well as the basics for many other instruments like sax, oboe, french horn, and drums. Chris's passion for music did not end when she left school. In her home there are no less than 15 real instruments (she can play all but the guitars). And yes folks that does not include all the rock band instruments. But if you have a PS3 and leave her a message she'd love to get on line and play with you. ;)

How Exciting!

WE'VE BEEN NOMINATED!

Our song "Bill Murray" has earned Double Experience a "Songwriter of the Year" Award at the Capital Music Awards! What an honor.

Here's a throwback to our time spent filming the music video at The Gladstone Theatre.

It's been almost a year since we released this song, and since then, it has taken on a life of it's own (not the least of which as the theme song for "The Adventures We Have From Inside the House" by comedian Tim Riel).

Congratulations to all the nominees, we look forward to seeing you all on May 26 with Ottawa Music Industry Coalition!

Working on show 183! Hard to believe weā€™re getting close to show 200.

It's an honour to announce our official collaboration with Nintendo. Yes, KK Slider himself covered one of our songs. And you can find the full cover over on our P47230N page!

Oh me now, now...

Justin Maki & Stephen Ingram

This Night, February 10th at 7:30PM EST, I invite my friend Stephen Ingram to join me for a very special night of songs and stories! You will be pleased you came.

"Stephen is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, as well as a professional stage actor. He was born and raised in Hamilton, ON, but having lived in London, ON, for 8 years now, he considers himself a Londoner at heart. He holds a Bachelorā€™s degree Honours in Composition from the Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western University, though much of his career so far has been in performance rather than composition. As an actor/musician/composer, he has worked professionally in theatres across Ontario, but over COVID he was forced to sit at home and he ended up writing an album, which will be releasing later this year".

Stephen and I met at Western University. He studied Classical, while I studied Pop, back in the mid-2010s. Despite studying in different departments, I often ran into Stephen in the common areas and he always exuded a distinct, inviting brand of positive energy. He is such a talent. I've always admired his effortless ability to embody a character and deliver it convincingly on stage. The only chance I believe we've had to collaborate was via a Western University musical called Spring Awakening, where Stephen acted and I played guitar in the pit band. That was 2016. I'm excited to see and hear him share his original compositions tonight šŸ˜Š.

As for tickets, please send me an e-transfer of $10 (+ any additional voluntary donation) per person to this email - [email protected]. In advance would be wonderful, though during the show is fine too! If you have paid already, you are a superior human being in my books šŸ˜‰.

With covid changing plans constantly, Iā€™m very saddened to hear of all the NYE celebrations being cancelled. I thought it would be nice to do a rebroadcast of my 2021 chamber-folk concert live from Revival House for you to enjoy from home if you choose. It will premier tonight on YouTube at 8pm EST. Iā€™ll post a link in the comments below shortly. Happy New Year everyone. Letā€™s keep looking at the bright side.

Our Story

Chris is a musician herself, and volunteer music teacher. In 2009 a friend convinced her to listen to The Bugcast. A music podcast that airs every Friday night. From there she was hooked. Listening to several podcasts, until the day she asked one host if he'd take recommendations for his show. In her home there are no less than 12 real instruments (she can play all but the guitars). And yes folks that does not include all the rock band instruments. Chris is currently trying to learn Guitar, Ukulele and Violin.

Occasionally she guest hosts The Bugcast music podcast, and sometimes her husband John sits in with her hosting that show.
