July to September 2024
Surrey RCMP is sharing its third quarter (Q3) 2024 crime statistics. An overview of calls for service and significant crime trends is provided below.
2024 Q3 Calls for Service Overview:
• In total, the Surrey RCMP received 50,617 calls for service in Q3 2024 compared to 55,103 in Q3 2023 (-8%).
• In addition to calls for service related to criminal activity, police responded to 1,422 files involving mental health (-19%). The Police Mental Health Outreach Team (PMHOT) is a specialized team dedicated to assisting vulnerable citizens facing mental health, addictions or homelessness issues, through an integrated approach with health, city and community partners. PMHOT provided approximately 539 referrals to support and health agencies in Q3 2024. In May 2023, Surrey RCMP launched an app-based resource for Frontline officers called HealthIM, which links police directly with Fraser Health professionals in real-time for enhanced support of those suffering from a mental health crisis.
• Surrey RCMP responded to 162 illicit drug overdoses (-16%) in Q3 2024 and administered first aid to individuals overdosing using Naloxone 51 of the 162 files reported in Q3. Note: police do not attend all drug overdoses in Surrey, many are reported to or attended by emergency services partners such as fire or ambulance. Of the overdoses police attended, tragically, 51 of those involved an overdose death (+6%).
• There were 897 missing persons files (-9%) in Q3 2024 compared to 990 in Q3 2023. The Surrey RCMP has a Missing Persons Response Team attached to each Frontline Watch in addition to a dedicated Missing Persons Unit. The officers on these teams investigate all reports to police of missing persons in Surrey, regardless of the length of time they have been missing, ensuring full compliance with the BC Provincial Policing Standards for Missing Person Investigations.
