On March 7th 1944 Towns Van Zant entered this world as a good ole Texas boy. He started songwriting at a young age and honed his writing skills over the years to become a very notable songwriter. Singing his songs all over texas (drunk or sober) he eventually made a name for himself with songs like Poncho and Lefty, If I needed you, Shrimp song, and a host of other great works. Towns has had his songs covered by the likes of Steve Earle, Lyle Lovett, and Bob Dylan.
He died at the age of 52 on January 1st 1997.
His ability to match lyrics and turn stories into songs was unique and with capable guitar playing, Towns Van Zant will forever remain well respected in the American Folk world.
