A functional & pretty kitchen continued…Part 1 of the ceiling project!! We are kickstarting the main floor renovation and the ceiling is finally happening!! I’m ready for it to not look like a wall was taken down. There is so much work in the planning and prep stages, it really wouldn’t be right not to break the steps down.
Here’s a step by step:
1. Plan & Price out possible options @warmanhomecentre
2. Tape out beam placement @frogtape
3. Mark rafters and run chalk lines
4. Measure & plan out possible light placements. Run wiring and install light boxes.
5. Take all light fixtures down and install work lights.
6. Clear out work space. Really only the flooring boxes needed to be moved. The rest is easily moveable, we still have to live and function in the space.
7. Choose the perfect product @officialmetrie
8. Scaffolding was a must, @princess_auto
9. Go time 💃
Renovations take time and money. I’ve been planning this project since September.

Just going to leave this right here. The reasons why the kitchen had to go. That sink was the worst, tuck tape for the win. We waited 1.5 years before ripping it out.

24’ Faux Wood BeamInspo: @the_sunnydiaries AND @lyndseyroby1 I loved what these 2 creators did to create their beams BUT I wanted to go with a less rustic look, and our beam is supersized. The longest one will be 21’ and the side beams need to be 14’ long. So this is what we did! Materials:- 0.5” rigid foam cut 8” x 8” with a mitred seam- spackling to fill seams - primer- paint- SW Fresco Cream- Wood Grain tool- Gel Stain- Chestnut. I have 6 more 14’ beams to make! Can you relate? One of the best pieces of advice is to actually take the time to do the things that fill your cup. For me DIY is somewhat therapeutic, but the fixer upper lifestyle can definitely be overwhelming when you are in the thick of it. Anyways, our relaxing weekend away from our fixer upper, also involves more renovations. BUT lots of relaxing too. Mud & tape has started at the farmhouse aka the cabin’s spare bedroom.
