Glamorous night in. Ignore the hole in the ceiling. Not trying to open a can of worms, just trying to give it a lipstick reno until we can truly rip the bandaid.

Does this space need a rich colour?

Faux wood beam install!! Part 4 of updating our vaulted ceiling!
I really love it! Was a little nervous because it’s only lived in the shop until now. I loved creating and crafting this together. Now to finish the side beams. 💃 I tried explaining this to some of my grade 9 students but they got lost at the word faux… why not say fake wood 🪵 🤷♀️
.
What are your thoughts do you love it? I can’t help but stare at the wood grain.

Vaulted Ceiling, Part 3: Shiplap #ad 🔨✨I’ve been planning our ceiling projects since September. With the help of Warman Home Centre I was able to ask all the questions, grab a few quotes, and they guided me to the best Metrie Shiplap product for our ceiling. Did you know there are different finishes and dimensions available to order?!? I initially thought I wanted to get the prefinished Shiplap, I thought it would be less work. Because of how we would have to install it, the pre-primed Shiplap option was the best route. It was also the wider option which meant less boards to install. I ordered 72 boards of 1/2” x 7 1/4” MDF Metrie Shiplap in 16’ lengths. Install: 1. Prep: Snap chalk lines for rafter locations and snap a chalk line for the starter row. 2. Measure and cut Shiplap to length 3. Construction glue on the back4. We made sure to nail to the rafters. One nail on the rabbeted edge one on the face, at every rafter. 5. Fill nail holes6. Sand7. Wipe with microfibre cloth. 8. Paint matte finish. Using a sprayer is best. ( if you don’t have a sprayer you would want to pre paint and then touch up where you put nail holes) I’m in love with the ceiling, and the beams aren’t even up yet!! Follow along, that’s coming up next 🫶If you have a project on your New Year to do list, reach out to Warman Home Centre! #shiplap #installation #vaultedceiling #diy #homerenovation #fauxwoodbeams
Updating the vaulted ceilings part 2: all about the faux wood beams.
It was not the ceilings fault he hurt his back, it was drilling holes for ice fishing 🎣 Right in the middle of the 2 person install. He’s feeling mostly better now and we will be getting the ceilings ready for beam installation next. I was hoping for before the new year, but here we are in 2025, he ended up being right on that aspect. Should be finished by the time I have to go back to work. I’m somewhat blaming him for the beam setback but it was probably more of the glues fault 🤪
Who’s ready to see the beams in place?!? 🙋🏻♀️
The next update is going to be a good one, stay tuned….

A functional & pretty kitchen continued…Part 1 of the ceiling project!! We are kickstarting the main floor renovation and the ceiling is finally happening!! I’m ready for it to not look like a wall was taken down. There is so much work in the planning and prep stages, it really wouldn’t be right not to break the steps down.
Here’s a step by step:
1. Plan & Price out possible options @warmanhomecentre
2. Tape out beam placement @frogtape
3. Mark rafters and run chalk lines
4. Measure & plan out possible light placements. Run wiring and install light boxes.
5. Take all light fixtures down and install work lights.
6. Clear out work space. Really only the flooring boxes needed to be moved. The rest is easily moveable, we still have to live and function in the space.
7. Choose the perfect product @officialmetrie
8. Scaffolding was a must, @princess_auto
9. Go time 💃
Renovations take time and money. I’ve been planning this project since September.

Just going to leave this right here. The reasons why the kitchen had to go. That sink was the worst, tuck tape for the win. We waited 1.5 years before ripping it out.
I’m just getting back to the kitchen renovation. Here’s what’s left:
1. Ceiling project
2. Backsplash
3. Micro-cement range hood
4. Flooring defect fixes
5. Island light fixtures.
Follow along our real time live in renovation.
