Salt Spring Island Fire Rescue personnel put out a small brush fire on The Cottages property on Robinson Road on Friday afternoon. It was quickly spotted, with staff and guests putting water on the fire until SSIFR arrived to do the rest.
Excavator arrived at the Canvasback Place site of the Rogers/CREST cell tower this morning. Residents not willing to be arrested so it looks like the work will proceed.

Salt Spring's emergency responders â RCMP, BC Ambulance Service, Salt Spring Island Fire Rescue and Search & Rescue âgave an informal salute to health care workers at Lady Minto Hospital and adjacent facilities this afternoon.
According to the Salt Spring RCMP, the event was meant to "show the health care workers that they are overwhelmingly supported, and to boost morale to those who have been working so hard to keep us all healthy through the Covid pandemic, and who invest so much of themselves in doing so."
People protesting mandatory vaccination and BCâs COVID vaccine card in downtown Ganges earlier today. Speakers at the event said they plan to have another rally on Monday, the date when proof of partial vaccination will be required to enter restaurants, movie theatres and commercial sports events.

Driftwood bat rescue
Bat rescue at the Driftwood office. This little guy was hiding under some dishes in the sink and got soaked! Update: No one touched the bat and everything in the kitchen was very well-bleached after the rescue, plus food container rescue device thrown away.
Salt Spring Fire Rescue is doing a controlled burn to deal with a propane leak at GISS. Kanaka Road is closed off and they expect to be there for a few more hours tonight.
