"If i am testing positive from a supplement, i won't get in trouble."

Truth:

This statement does not justify one’s behaviours. The big majority of athletes that have been flagged with prohibited substances and that gave their diet as an excuse suffered the same consequences as an athlete that would have deliberately done it.

Technological doping

Olympic sport has experienced a revolution thanks to technological advancements in equipment design, training techniques, and performance analysis. The ethical implications of technological innovations like data analytics and biomechanical assistive devices have sparked discussions concerning issues of regulation, fairness, and competitive spirit.
Technological doping can include using athletic gear, such as shoes, clothes, or prosthetics, to gain an unfair competitive advantage. Although the World Anti-Doping Agency considers it a concern, each sport has its own set of laws regarding what is permitted. The problematic aspect is that the exact concept of technological doping is vague. Improvements in athletic apparel can sometimes be attributed to simple improvements, but they can also go too far and distort the rules of the game. It is difficult to determine where to draw the line and whether particular advancements are fair because of this.
One of the most well-known examples of technological doping is the Speedo LZR racing swimsuit. Swimmers wearing this suit set 23 out of 25 world records on its debut at the 2008 Olympics. The LZR swimsuit improves oxygen flow to muscles, compresses the body, and traps air for buoyancy. However, it improves swimmer performance to such an extent that the regulatory organization, FINA, disallowed it following the Olympics.

History of doping

For centuries, doping has been in sports, as players have used a variety of drugs to improve their results. Numerous doping incidents at the modern Olympic Games have brought attention to the ongoing fight for the prohibition of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) in sports.
During the Summer Olympics in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1904, there was the first known instance of performance-enhancing drug use in the Olympics. During the marathon, American racer Thomas Hicks battled exhaustion and dehydration by using strychnine, a strong stimulant and toxin. Hick's trainer administered the substance ignoring the drug's potentially dangerous side effects, such as elevated heart rate and convulsions.
Hicks proceeded to win the gold medal in spite of these hazards, creating a debate and bringing up issues regarding the usage of performance-enhancing drugs during Olympic competition.
This case brings to light the early difficulties in controlling doping in sports as well as the ongoing efforts to maintain the Olympic Games' credibility.

"There is nothing banned on the supplement label so it is safe."

Truth:

The labels used by the supplement brands are highly unreliable, there is at least 100 examples of supplements having misidentified substances that are considered prohibited. Some even omitted prohibited substance from the label. It is important to analyze and choose wisely the supplement brand used as some are not well indicate or even omitted. The coaching staff need to be well informed towards the supplements.

The reasons why doping is bad in the Olympics

Doping negatively affects the Olympics in several ways. Firstly, it undermines the fundamental principle of fair competition, as athletes who engage in doping gain an unfair advantage over clean competitors. This erodes the integrity of the Games and tarnishes the reputation of both individual athletes and the Olympic movement as a whole.

Secondly, doping damages the health and well-being of athletes. Many performance-enhancing substances have harmful side effects, both short-term and long-term, which can endanger athletes' lives and careers. This disregard for athletes' health contradicts the spirit of promoting physical excellence and well-being through sport.

Thirdly, doping undermines the trust and credibility of the Olympic Games among fans, sponsors, and the wider public. When doping scandals arise, they cast doubt on the legitimacy of athletic achievements and the effectiveness of anti-doping measures, leading to skepticism and disillusionment.

Overall, doping diminishes the value of the Olympic Games as a platform for celebrating human achievement, promoting fair competition, and inspiring future generations of athletes.https://olympics.com/ioc/fight-against-doping

Ethical integrity facing Doping in Sports

In addition to protecting the integrity and spirit of the game, upholding moral and ethical integrity in sports at all levels is crucial for encouraging positive values, building stakeholder trust, and guaranteeing the long-term viability and legitimacy of sports as a social institution. The text, titled "Moral/Ethical analysis of performance enhancement in sports" illustrates one possible reaction to the ethical behaviors of athletes concerning the use of performance enhancers and their consequences by combining Kant's Deontology theory with Jeremy Bentham's Utilitarian theory. The results of an action are the primary concern of utilitarianism. According to this theory, actions are correct in relation to their ability to bring happiness and incorrect in relation to their potential to bring the opposite of happiness. When examining moral behavior in sports, utilitarianism can effectively be applied. Athletes who take performance-enhancing drugs frequently do so in an attempt to find pleasure in the accomplishment of goals, recognition, and other rewards. Kant believed that moral laws are universally applicable to all people and that it is our responsibility to live in accordance with them. According to his theory, morality is not based on what each person believes to be right or wrong when presented with moral dilemmas. Following that, athletes should behave with self-discipline, which extends to a duty to maintain the moral standards imposed by sports. This duty is to oneself as the moral decline that is now taking place will not stop in the lack of a subjective decision to defend the fundamental rights of humanity. If, for certain athletes, happiness is the ultimate goal, then how this could be achieved should be justified in a way that maintains enjoyment. The accomplishments made before doping are the only things that can make athletes genuinely satisfied.

Doping Impact on the Olympics Games

Dear activists,
Today, we're shedding light on a topic that strikes at the heart of the Olympic spirit: doping. Behind the glitz and glamour of the Games lies a darker reality, one riddled with deceit, unfair advantages, and shattered dreams.
Consider these statistics:
Rampant Abuse: Despite stringent anti-doping measures, doping remains a pervasive issue in the Olympics. According to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), over 1000 athletes were caught doping in the past decade alone.

Sophisticated Methods: Athletes and their support teams constantly evolve their methods to evade detection. From designer drugs to blood doping, the arsenal of performance-enhancing techniques is as diverse as it is insidious.

Global Impact: Doping isn't confined to a single sport or nation. It's a global phenomenon that affects athletes from every corner of the world. No country is immune, and no sport is untouched by its reach.

Youth at Risk: The prevalence of doping sends a dangerous message to aspiring athletes, suggesting that success can be achieved through shortcuts and deception. This not only undermines the principles of fair play but also jeopardizes the health and well-being of young athletes.

Erosion of Trust: Each doping scandal erodes the trust and credibility of the Olympic movement. Fans lose faith in the integrity of competition, and clean athletes are robbed of their rightful recognition and glory.
But amidst these grim realities, there is hope. By shining a spotlight on the issue, raising awareness, and advocating for change, we can reclaim the true essence of the Olympic Games.

Together, we can:
Demand stricter testing protocols and harsher penalties for doping offenders.
Support clean athletes who embody the values of fair play and sportsmanship.
Hold sports organizations and governing bodies accountable for maintaining the integrity of competition.
Join us in the fight against Olympic doping. Together, let's ensure that the pursuit of excellence is defined by hard work, dedication, and unwavering integrity.

Our Journey

In the high-stakes world of Olympics sports, the integrity and spirit of competition are both things that are the most prone by the IOC. The global stage of the Olympics not only showcases the pinnacle of human physical achievement but also sets a standard for sportsmanship, ethics, and health. In this competition, the eyes of the whole world are shifted towards all of the extraordinary athletes and to see all of the ways that athlete find to cheat with drugs become a matter of intense scrutiny concern.

This document, crafted by Gabriel LaBarre, Tommy Gloutney, Adam Belhucine and Laurianne Goulet, serves as an introduction to the ethical dilemma that is the use of drugs in the Olympic. We mainly aim to sensitize the public to the overall impact that that practice can have over the health, the law, the ethic, and the social dimensions.

In the particular context of the Olympic games, drugs in sports promote the exact opposite value than the one of fairness, health, and equality that the IOC is pushing forward. The case of an athlete doping goes way futher than only an individual. It is affecting the athletes themselves, their teams, their countries, and the young fanbase looking out for them and trying to aspire as them. Even though there is major health hazard regarding the usage of drug, there is a major impact on other things such as the trust in the competition which dimishes the value of hard-earned achievement.

Through this initiative, we seek to open a conversation on the major importance that consist in clean competition and the inherent dangers of drug usage in the vast world of the Olympic sports. By raising awareness towards that situation and a good understanding of it, we hope to contribute and invest in a culture that sees themselves has more integer, healthy and fair for the Olympic, and hope that it will serve has a kick off towards the vast world of injustice regarding the professional sports in general.

Our exploration into this contreverse topic will dive right into the history of drug usage in the first Olympics held at the Romain empire, the way that it transgresses to the modern Olympics, the current challenges faced by the sporting community, and the never stopping efforts to combat this issue. We are also looking forward to enlighten the different personal stories, scientific studies, and the different ethical debates that surround this topic to offer a clear understanding of the implication of drug usage in Olympic sports.

While we embark on this educational journey, we invite readers to join us in reflecting on the true values that define the Olympic spirit and the collective responsibility we share in preserving the integrity and health of athletes worldwide.
