Slapping up a “Happy Friday” post on your Instagram because you realized you haven’t posted in a while, is not going to do benefit your business one iota.
I know for a fact you can do better than that.
Behind every post, there should be an intention/ purpose/ reason that you posted it.
Generic, bland content serves NO purpose.
Like truly, none.
If you’re really stumped I want you to dig deep into your past week.
Think about all the client interactions, the lightbulb moments, the questions you were asked, the funny things that happened.
That’s the s**t that makes great content.
You know why that makes great content? Because it’s UNIQUE and it’s INTERESTING.
Anyone can throw a “Happy ______” on their Instagram page and check off “post for the day” from their to do list.
That’s not marketing.
One of the literal definitions of marketing is…
“Marketing is the process of exploring, creating, and delivering value to meet the needs of a target market.”
How does a generic post like this deliver value to meet the needs of your target market?
It doesn’t.
SOO.. next time before hitting post, I want you to think of the intention behind something.
If there is no intention? Skip that post and create something for the next day with true intention behind it that’s going to benefit your target audience.

Comparison has entered the chat... *yikes*😬
I was recently talking with my business coach shoutout to and I was saying that I feel like I rely heavily on external validation in my business to make me feel adequate.
The vanity metrics DO get to me.
It's so easy to see a business on social media and think "They're so far ahead of me."
or "I'll never be like them" or
"No one cares about what I have to say, that's why my posts haven't been getting much engagement lately."
She reminded me of how important it is to get out of this mindset because it'll honestly just lead to feeling unfulfilled or fulfilled in the wrong ways.❌
Like I'm basing my business' worth off of strangers liking my picture on the Internet?! LOL even saying that out loud makes it sound soo stupid. 🤦🏻♀️
Then I stumbled across this quote...
Imagine if Coca Cola thought after their first year,
"Meh, guess we're not cut out for this!"
They wouldn't have made it far enough to be considered one of the most successful companies in the WORLD.
Every single business starts with 0 customers, 0 sales and 0 followers.
Growth takes time.
So if you're feeling like you aren't where you want to be yet, that's okay!
Keep going, keep showing up and keep working every day to build your dreams!

If you've ever felt discouraged about getting "low engagement" (likes, comments, saves, shares) on your posts, read this
My engagement has been WAY down lately and I started to get discouraged about it!
It's only natural as humans we want to be "liked" and that translates over to social media.
So when people aren't liking your posts or commenting on them (especially if you've experienced the highs of good engagement) it can make you feel like throwing in the towel!
But remember this...
- Engagement ebbs and flows- you'll always have periods of high engagement and periods of low engagement. That's just how she goes!
- Low engagement doesn’t mean your business is unsuccessful
- High engagement only feels good because it fuels your ego
- If you helped even 1 or 2 or 10 people, that’s better than none
These periods of time are great for reflection and analyzing!
Here's what I recommend doing during a period of low engagement...
1. Re-evaluate your content strategy- look for patterns & opportunities for growth.
2. Analyze your last 3 to 6 months and repurpose content that performed well during that time
3. Try something new! Social media marketing is half experimenting, half strategy. Have some fun with it- who knows, that new idea could be a game-changer for your business and get you out of the funk!
4. Don't QUIT. Do not let this stop you from posting and showing up! There are always people learning from you & enjoying your content (even if it's a less amount of people than you're use to!)

Five fun facts about me (because last time I did this was nearly 2 years ago 😶)
I was a highly competitive dancer growing up which definitely made me incredibly ambitious, disciplined + hard working.
I have been a waitress for 8 years, so I’m well versed with talking to alllll kinds of people- I’ve worked at many kinds of restaurants from pubs to fancy golf courses and everything in between. Serving really brought me out of my shell and helped me develop strong communication skills, after growing up as a really shy child!
Travelling is my absolute favourite pastime. I’ve been to 18 countries so far, I’m hoping to hit 30 before I’m 30 (4 more years to go!)
I’m an only child! There have been studies that only children score higher on IQ tests than people with siblings but hey, who knows. 😉
I’m Canadian, so yes I guess I would consider myself quite friendly + I do say sorry way more than I’d like to admit. The rumours you've heard about us, are in fact true lol

I was listening to “On purpose” which is Jay Shetty’s podcast the other day when he said this.
FIRST OFF, if you haven’t listened to this podcast ever, you need to start now.
I’m not even exaggerating when I say this podcast has changed my life majorly.
Ok, fan girl moment over.
My marketing brain took this clip and ran with it…because this can be applied to business and knowing/understanding your target audience!
If you aren’t speaking in your audiences language, they won’t resonate with you and it wedges a major gap between where you want to be (connecting with them) and where you are (speaking in foreign/non-relatable language).
You could just as easily be speaking Spanish to your English speaking audience at this point, because the message just ain’t hitting home honey! 🙁
Knowing & I mean TRULY knowing your target audience, is single-hand-idly the most important thing in marketing.
When you know them you can…
✔️ Speak in a language that resonates with them (build connection)
✔️ Create offers/products/services that actuallyyyy help them (solve problems)
✔️ Help them thrive (move closer to their goals)
And that’s when people will actually buy your s**t.

Well, I guess it’s time we introduce ourselves. We’re an Edmonton based couple, named Shane and Shayla, who share in many passions; one being Marketing, and more specifically social media marketing. We both have Bachelor of Commerce degrees from two separate universities and met while working at a golf course back in 2016. We’re big into travelling, snowboarding, painting and have a shared love for our little Olde English Bulldog named Duke. If you work with us, you might even be lucky enough to meet him!
2020 has been an interesting year due to our friend COVID-19 but it has really given us the opportunity to reflect on what’s important and the time to pursue a dream; starting our own business. Although Stay Social is a start-up, we have over 4 years of combined social media marketing experience and are extremely passionate about evolving your brand through your social media channels. Living in a digital era, it is essential to be present online, yet we understand business owners are BUSY (Trust us, we know).
Our mission at Stay Social is to highlight your brand through your social media channels in order to target your ideal consumers and increase sales for your company. Shayla’s story: I’m 24 years old, my education background is in marketing and in 2019 I got this fancy piece of paper saying that I now have a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Post graduation I had absolutely NO clue what I wanted to do, but after rushing into university straight from high school, I knew this was the time to reflect on my passions, and figure out which path I was hoping to take. This is when I began an internship with a company called the Mental Wealth Project. After six months, I was granted the title of “Social Media Manager” with this company where I am in charge of running several platforms. I realized, WOW I absolutely love doing this, why not make it into something more? I thought about this idea every single day and knew it was time to take action, so I drafted a business plan in my bedroom and went to work on my dreams.
Shane’s Story: I’m 31 years old and Shayla’s better half. 😉 After finishing a degree in Marketing from NAIT, I realized I have found my passion in life. As a Golf Professional with the CPGA of Canada I found myself in a marketing role as an Assistant Professional here in Edmonton, Alberta. Running golf course marketing soon grew into another passion of mine leading me to create The Golf Guru marketing blog. Growing up loving the game, I finally fell into a role I really enjoyed. I spent 5 years in the hospitality industry running restaurants and bars, in addition to this, another 3 years as a Marketing Manager for a travel company. Two more years of my life was spent working for and eventually owning and operating my own custom suit company. Essentially, I have spent the last 14 years learning about an array of different industries, finally falling in love with marketing. I know that my past experiences working with an array of individuals paired with my business knowledge, will help me tell other peoples stories in the form of social media marketing.
