Our reel-to-reel audio tape deck is now in the studio, and with it came a couple dozen tapes from the '60s, including what's now playing for our initial tests, a 1960 stereo production of Gilbert & Sullivan's "HMS Pinafore" on London Records. For a 65-year-old recording, this tape still sounds like new! Also included in the batch of tapes was "The Sound of Music" original soundtrack.

Remember - we can transfer your old audio tape recordings to USB drives or CDs! For reels of 1/4" tape, we can work with up to 7-inch reels, and recording speeds up to 7.5 inches per second. Happy New Year! It's our first business day of 2025, and with the new year comes new equipment! We've acquired a videotape machine capable of playing Super VHS (S-VHS) and Super VHS-C tapes, as well as regular VHS and VHS-C. S-VHS was a semi-professional tape format, and locally, Renfrew's community cable TV channel used S-VHS for a number of years to record and play back programming as well as on-location footage; I remember seeing, in the 2000s, several Panasonic S-VHS decks at the Cable 22 studio on O'Brien Road.

If you have any Super VHS tapes that you'd like transferred to digital, let us know! We're also keeping an eye out for equipment to work with professional/industrial tape formats such as the Betacam family, 3/4" (U-Matic) and 1-inch Type C.

The old black-and-white test pattern on the monitor means our videotape transfer system is now idle; we transferred A LOT of video to digital in the last two or three months! Thank you to everyone who brought us their old tapes and films, and I hope you and your loved ones enjoy seeing those classic memories again!

As of 12 noon today (Dec 24th), we'll be off for a short Christmas break; the studio will be closed through Sunday, December 29th, but we’ll be back at it 9am-4pm Monday December 30th, 9am-noon New Year’s Eve, closed New Year’s Day, and open again 9am-4pm Thursday, January 2nd. Friday, January 3rd we’ll be open 9am to 1:30pm (finishing early that day to attend an appointment) and back to regular hours on Monday, January 6th.

FYI if you've been hoping to get old videotape, film or audio tape transferred to a USB drive or DVDs, winter is an excellent time to reach out to us, as the studio is somewhat quiet and turnaround times are shorter.

For my final holiday post of 2024, we go back to Christmas Eve 1991, for most of that evening’s 11pm edition of “Total News” on Barrie’s CKVR (channel 3), uploaded to YT by Travis Doucette/Retrobox, with the original commercials. The first couple of minutes are missing, but the newscast features Bob Pronyk at the anchor desk, the late Bob McIntyre with weather, and Doug Wilson covering sports; reporter Janie Robinson also makes a brief appearance near the end of the cast.

Getting into the Christmas spirit this morning in the bm audioworks studio, with both of our videotape transfer systems hard at work, and the Vince Guaraldi Trio's wonderful soundtrack from "A Charlie Brown Christmas" (1965) playing in Spotify on my Mac. Their rendition of "O Tannenbaum" brings back many memories of Christmas mornings in front of the tree, opening gifts and listening to holiday favourites.🎄
