This collaboration between Global News Indigenous Communication Arts -INCA & King's Journalism saw student researchers working alongside Patti Sonntag, Melissa Ridgen & Alex Boutilier for months. Great (paid) experience! Students Gokce On , Luis Felipe Mussalem , Cat Zens , Hannah Sangster , Emilie Wren & Celeste Bird poured their hearts into the investigation. Immensely proud of their efforts & excited for their futures as investigative journalists. Indigenous leaders have long warned of abuses and lax oversight re. Ottawa’s Indigenous procurement policy. This much-needed investigation gets to the heart of it. Thanks to Pauline Dakin for supervising the UKing's contributors.
It’s All Request Friday people! 🙌🏽

Just watched this again and remembered why everyone should watch Everything Is Connected https://www.everythingisconnected.ca/
produced by Betty Ann Adam and Doug Cuthand.
"Everything is connected is a documentary project led jointly by the Sixties Scoop Indigenous Society of Saskatchewan (SISS) and Iskwewuk-E-wichiwitochik. The project highlights how intergenerational trauma and the separation of Indigenous children from their families are connected to the issue of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls."

You know when things are going great and you're so busy you can hardly think straight and you're surrounded by beautiful people, and you suddenly have a feeling of such great loss...
There was a beautiful girl in INCA...her name was Mercedes Redman. She was from Standing Buffalo Dakota Nation.
Before she even came to INCA, she had a portfolio and a network, including Nelson Bird and Creeson Agecoutay, and the whole crew at CTV, where she started volunteering when she was in high school.
She flew through INCA, was a producer for pîkiskwêwin, did a wonderful podcast series with kids in care during covid, went to the School of Journalism and came back to INCA as a mentor and teaching assistant in Summer 2022.
Mercedes passed away in 2022, but we remember her and we are inspired by her every day. Thanks to her mom Amanda for giving me permission to share this video from her celebration

You can see much more of Mercedes' work and projects at a special page that Trish Elliott created

Game on! I knew if we waited a week that Trish would come to her senses and decide retirement is not for her. This Saturday we will celebrate the return of Trish lol. Sadly, this is just wishful thinking. Trish is looking very relaxed and settling into retirement. So we will celebrate her retirement—rain or shine, at my place 3055 Quinn Drive on Saturday, July 6 from 4 pm until the fire goes out. Come and go as you can. Bring something to share if you have a favourite dish to share. We’ll order in Pizza—Trish’s pick, at 6 pm. Pop and munchies will be provided. If you have a special flavour of beverage you like, we will provide refrigeration. Hope to see you get on Saturday😀
I have the most amazing friends and colleagues--Kerry and Sol too. And the articles in the newspaper at which Kerry was the first Indigenous reporter ever--since it started in March 1883.
Hey all: We’re postponing Trish’s retirement part until next Friday or Saturday, when we can have a nice evening around the fire without worrying about torrential rain and tornados.
Will post an updated invitation.
Have a great weekend everyone❤️
