In the past year we have started to produce 360 degree footage for dome projection. We were commissioned by both Ocean Wise and The Department of Fisheries and Oceans to create compelling footage and stories to educate audiences on the variety and importance of local Canadian waters. These sockeye a anxious to go up the creek to spawn but the water level is still too low. Some of them dare to approach the very shallows whilst others hang out just of the steep bank (far right)

Ethical wildlife filming is an attitude that is not evident in the industry. As a drone pilot and underwater cameraman I try my best to adhere to the rules and when we worked on filming sea otters we applied and were granted a disturbance license with strict rules. On a rare occasion when flying my drone off the dock a humpback whale showed up unexpectedly and I immediately landed the drone and waited till the animal was gone. Not getting a grant does not mean you can go ahead anyway.

In 2021 I was filming for an ARTE series called "Rivages" , exploring intertidal life. This year Kathy and I returned to one of the locations to film gooseneck barnacles in the surge. Thank you Curt Smecher to allow us once again access via your property and John and Sheryl and John Mass for dock space. Great day and managed to video the reproduction.

Sea kelp and sun. Gotta love it

Giant kelp ripped off by large waves still holds its passengers, pelagic gooseneck barnacles. They will struggle to survive but have a chance as long as the kelp stays afloat and does not get washed up on shore. (video frame)

Here is a great event in Victoria BC on July 13th. Presented by Cascadia Seaweed and World Wildlife Fund a film on the life of a seaweed farmer. I am glad to have been involved in filming underwater for this doc.

I was "forced" to attend yesterday's sustainable seafood dinner with chef Ned Bell and hosted by Ocean Wise Seafood. Great event to celebrate World Oceans Day.
