One day after declaring a state of emergency due to B.C.’s wildfire situation, the province has issued an order banning non-essential travel to fire-affected communities.
This is the first order under the provincial state of emergency
B.C.’s Premier David Eby has declared a provincial state of emergency due to the fast-paced spreading of multiple wildfires across the province.
The declaration comes as the province sees its worst wildfire season on record

A fire on Quadra Island has been reduced from four hectares to one and a half, as crews continue to battle the fire which is still listed as out of control.
First reported Aug. 18, Fire currently measures one and a half hectares
FireSmoke Canada mapping shows a wisp of particles over Vancouver Island Friday (Aug. 18). However, by 6 a.m. Saturday the mid-Island will see more, and by 8 a.m. the entire Island could be covered in light smoke.
Light particles expected to become heavier by late evening across the Island
“I was the only Asian kid in the school, and it wasn’t always an easy experience,” he said. “People would hit me; they would call me names. No one cared, no one did anything. I didn’t do anything. The first of two all-day closures on Highway 4 east of Port Alberni happens today, Aug. 17. The road was due to close at 8:30 a.m. and is supposed to reopen to single lane alternating traffic at 9 p.m.
Closures will allow for removal of ‘refrigerator-sized boulders’ from the highway
Directing the feature film All in Madonna, which won numerous awards in 2020, Lim has followed it with his own story My Name is Arnold. It details the story of when he was 10 years old growing up in Blue River, B.C.

Highway 4 between Parksville Qualicum Beach and Port Alberni is closed right now due to an increased risk of debris falling from the site of the Cameron Bluffs wildfire. Rain in the vicinity has caused the issue. DriveBC will have an update at 5 pm.
