This community is a charming place with a focus on preserving its history and natural beauty. The hiking trails and sightseeing in the area is truly amazing!

We visited the community during sunrise and it was a real treat with the warm golden hues to bring out all the texture and details of the buildings.

WOW! What a weekend this was for the northern lights to end off the summer. Such a spectacular natural light display. They were very active for the entire long weekend paired with an amazing meteor shower. Did you get a chance to see this?

Puffins of 2024 - Newfoundland and Labrador

You can find puffins primarily on islands like Elliston, Witless Bay Ecological Reserve and Bonavista. These locations are some of the best places to observe puffin colonies in North America. All of these area's are stunning and I can't wait to go back again next year!

Bonavista Puffin Love - Newfoundland and Labrador

They have what is possibly the most adorable mating display among birds: billing, where they "kiss" upon finding each other again

A few interesting facts that everyone should know about the puffins that surround our lovely province each year:

They mate for life: Puffins have lifespans averaging 20 years, and unless a partner should die, they return to the same mate year after year.

They tag-team raising their baby

They can find their mate after months apart at sea

They are noted for their tenderness and devotion to their mate

How amazing is this little cave. We sneaked in a bit on seadoo but ideally would need a kayak to get all the way.

The shape of the rocks, color and stillness of the water and the atmosphere in this cave was breathtaking!

The island boasts stunning coastal scenery, including cliffs and many sea stacks. If you get a chance to explore around this island by boat or seadoo, you will be amazed.

Don’t forget to stop into Dicks for a scoff on your adventure, the restaurant doesn’t disappoint!

Bonavista Bay - S***m Whale Tail

The largest of the toothed whale and the largest toothed predator.

The s***m whale's flukes (tail lobes) are triangular and very thick. The whale lifts its flukes high out of the water as it begins a feeding dive. It has a series of ridges on the back's caudal third instead of a dorsal fin.

The Spout Path - Newfoundland and Labrador

We embraced the breathtaking views and stunning coastal scenery on The Spout Path which is part of the East Coast Trail.

It's more than a hike; it's an unforgettable journey through Newfoundland's natural beauty. We opted for the overnight adventure to fully immerse ourselves in nature's beauty.

During our trek, we were fortunate to witness a spectacular display of wildlife: we saw hundreds of whales, including 20-30 Humpback breaches and a feeding frenzy, alongside a variety of birds gracing the skies and coast.

Elliston Puffin Viewing Site - Newfoundland and Labrador

The puffin viewing site in Elliston provides a great opportunity for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts to observe these charming birds in their natural habitat. Frenchman's Cove - Newfoundland and Labrador Nothing like a beautiful Fortune Bay sunset!

King’s Point Whale Pavilion - Newfoundland and Labrador Here is a sneak peek. This stop was well worth it. The skeleton is over 50 feet long and takes up most of the building. This is a six ton female humpback whale skeleton. Unfortunately caught up in fishing nets in 2001 along with her calf, the mother died. The carcass was towed to King’s Point where the idea developed to pull the skeleton on display This tour has some amazing information about whales and whales in our province.

Exploring Trout River pond by Sea Doo Magnificent views of the "Narrows" where two ponds meet, and of the glacial-carved valley of Trout River. The whales are starting to get plentiful around the Newfoundland waters and it’s a great time to get out and explore to check out some whales either with a local boat tour, from the coastline or with your own boat or seadoo. While I was exploring around the coastline of Cape Broyle this curious whale had to come check me out as I was relaxing in a cove and taking a few photos. It was a very epic moment. Also if out in boat or seadoo always be careful when cruising as you never know when you will approach a sleeping whale that’s just chilling on the surface. They can be hard to spot sometimes! Rencontre East ~ Newfoundland and Labrador, is a small, outport community in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada located north east of Belleoram, and west of Terrenceville in Fortune Bay. This place has so much to offer and it’s a great way to go off grid and just enjoy a little time away from your busy schedules. Exploring this area is so amazing and has so much to offer. I’m planning to return this year and leaving from the Harbour Brenton area and explore some of that coastline.
