Her nominator, Kristina, says, "Vicki is the owner of Sandbox daycare in Hanover. She is the most caring and kindest person I know. She not only helps her staff in every way by stepping in and helping us out in every room in the daycare, she also would do anything to help out the families that she gives care for. This week's Country 93 Local Hero is.. Penny Havens-Farmer!

Her nominator, Pat, says, "I had a fall and damaged my leg pretty bad. My daughter was here and dressed it - she felt it needed more medical attention, but had to leave. Penny said she would drive me to the Markdale hospital where we got excellent care, but I was told that I would need to have my dressing changed every other day. Penny said she would do it for me, even though she is looking after her 95 year old mother full time, as well as her husband who needs care. She has been helping me every other day and I don't know what I would do without her or her help."

This week’s “Country 93 Local Hero” is… Karen Thomas!

Carol, who nominated Karen, said “Back in 2023, our challenged daughter, Angie, had hip replacement surgery. Karen basically made this surgery a success with all the care she provided for her and now our daughter is doing amazing. Karen takes Angie swimming twice a week at the Y and constantly encourages her to do what she can. She is unbelievably dependable and a few times a year she takes Angie out for dinner and a night at the Roxy. She makes it so that our daughter’s life has so much meaning and gives her something to look forward to. She is certainly ours and Angie’s hero and we are so grateful for her.”

This week’s “Country 93 Local Hero” is… Stephanie Weatherhead!

Sue, who nominated Stephanie, said “Stephanie is an Educational Support Worker in Wiarton, supporting many students in her day. She is compassionate about her students and job, and a very valued member of our team. She is such a generous person in every manner - always with a smile in her face. Stephanie is often seen running up and down the halls of Peninsula Shores District School, hurrying along to support her next student. She volunteers after hours at special events as well. Stephanie is also a hockey mom of 3 girls, and over the years served on the bench on many teams. She also volunteers in community events and fundraisers. Anyone who knows Stephanie will be familiar with her contagious laugh and smile and Stephanie doesn’t realize the joy she brings to so many!”

Technical Issues With 911 Service. Police would like to notify the public that 911 calls will continue to be processed within our communication center. There has been no delay & no calls have been missed/lost. Bell Canada is working on the issue.

UPDATE: Technical Issue With 911 Resolved. Owen Sound Emergency Communications Centre would like to thank their dispatch partner who helped ensure no 911 call went unattended.

The 911 emergency lines are currently not operating into the Owen Sound Communications Centre. The service provider is working to restore the lines as soon as possible. In the meantime, residents can continue to call 519.364.2411 for Police, Fire, and Paramedics.

This week's Country 93 Local Hero is ... Ron Corneyea!

His nominator, Darlene, writes, "Having seen me walking with a cane and knowing my husband works out of town and is not home during the week, Ron shovels my drive with every snowfall. He will not take anything for doing this. He once came running when he saw my friend and I having difficulty getting in the house when I broke my ankle on January 25th. He is just the sweetest and most humble man with a heart of gold."

"Aaron works in the baked goods department at Food Basics here in Owen Sound and is very helpful and outgoing. Recently I mentioned to him that I was disappointed that the strawberry lemon muffins weren't available that day. He put a big smile on his face and said that he had a whole box in the back and asked if he could get them for me. Of course I said yes! Aaron is a fine example of a great employee who goes the extra mile."

There are many issues that Chris has to deal with on 'the fly' during the derby and they are handled very professionally.
