We are excited to announce the upcoming book ‘Narcissystem’ by experimental poet Nick Montfort . Available for preorder in the Anteism shop.

There’s a term in programming for the ability of running code to examine its own structure: Reflection. The short computer program at the core of Narcissystem does nothing but gaze at its image lovingly. Its output, a complete description of itself down to the level of bits—of zeroes and ones—is presented in this book as a beautiful material text, a tribute to how computer programs and poems, although they have the power to do much more, are often pathologically self-centered.

ecstatic to launch my new series “Emblematic Elusions: Eros in African Cinema” !!!

Edition I, “La Noire de…/Black Girl” (Ousmane Sembène, 1966), lays the foundation with Black African Cinema’s first feature film.

“Emblematic Elusions” portrays how African filmmakers redefine the Black form in the visual field from the wounded signifier to an embodied vessel for liberation.

💥Pre-Order your copy: https://afi.onl/frontpage-ee💥

Through these prints, I am asserting that reading cinema through Eros is the most intuitive lens to reconcile with issues in history, politics, socio-economy, migration&diaspora, [post]colonialism, [post]nationalism and much more; for the past, present and future of continental Africa and its diasporas.

“I wanted mud. To dig my hands in soil. To scream. To give offerings. This piece gave me permission to myself to feel it all. I feel like this piece specifically was a moment of mourning, was a moment to express how much grief comes from loss, to be able to bury it and to have service for that.”

Situated in an era of abundant access to digital images and imminent environmental collapse, Landscape Past Future proposes a re-thinking of landscape paintings through the lens of data aggregation technologies.

Using large institutional datasets filtered via metadata search terms and machine-learning techniques, new landscape paintings are created by aggregating historically significant works in digital mosaics. In these new, original works, the underlying pastoral associations are reconstituted within a digital realm of preservation: a virtual simulacrum in dialogue with our present witnessing of a disappearing natural world.

Each digital mosaic is presented with an accompanying “works cited” page, detailing the sources used to create the composite image. The accounting for every borrowed pixel functions as a “general recipe” and list of references, while further complicating the underlying tension between quantitative procedures and qualitative choices which lies at the heart of the project.
