As we wrap up 2024, we’re feeling so grateful for a year filled with collaboration, creativity, and growth đŸ€

This year challenged us, inspired us, and reminded us why we do what we do - helping brands tell their stories, better connect with their audiences, and accurately reflect their values.

From welcoming new team members to building lasting relationships with clients old and new, 2024 has been nothing short of transformative. Every website launched, every rebrand completed, every post created - it all reflects the heart and dedication of our team and the trust of our clients, which truly is priceless.

The numbers tell us it was our best year to date, but behind the data, it also was a year of continuous learning, challenges amass, and critical changes.

Growth is good, albeit sometimes painful (hey growing pains are a real thing!). 2025 will see us refining our processes and systems to better serve our team and clients, as well as *actually* working on our own marketing and website (just call us the cobbler with no shoes).

We’ll also be celebrating our 12th year in business as well as some pretty epic client milestones (a 25th anniversary to boot).

With that we’ll leave you with the quote we shared in our newsletter earlier today:

If you’re already feeling overwhelmed by all the new year propaganda and pressure, we want to gently remind you that trust trumps trends every single time.

Are you team shutting down or showing up over the holidays?🎄

As with EVERYTHING in social media, there’s no wrong or right answer - just what’s best for your brand and your audience!

As for us, we’ll likely be doing a bit of both
sporadically. We’ll be in and out of email because that’s where we connect with clients, and over is more for fun.

As we navigate through the whirlwind of this season, we wanted to take a moment to share why you won’t see any Black Friday sales from us again this year.

This isn’t about bashing Black Friday; in fact we LOVE a good deal and reason to shop from our favourite businesses!

It’s about honouring our truth and staying true to our values.

We understand the pressure this season brings and the expectation to offer irresistible deals, but it’s okay to take a step back.

If you can participate and it aligns with your brand and goals, go for it!

But if, like us, you find yourself recovering from an injury, juggling multiple roles, knee-deep in projects, or simply not ready, that’s perfectly okay too.

Taking a trip down memory lane in honour of Women’s Entrepreneurship Day đŸšș

Looking through all our photos was slightly emotional - from humble beginnings (literally just me myself and I in my dad’s basement) through marriage and motherhood, to now having a full team of talented women, it’s been the ride of my life.

Entrepreneurship is incredibly important to me because I grew up not even knowing it was an option. One of the most challenging parts of this whole journey was the mindset shift I had to make to believe that I could *actually* build my own business; it’s not something I was ever taught, told about it, or thought about.

But when social media was new on the scene, I was inspired by the power it had to build brands and connect them with their audiences. Back in 2013 it was so new that most didn’t even know how to properly leverage it; I saw a gap and was keen to fill it. I was also fresh off an injury (ironic? perhaps) so couldn’t physically handle a traditional office role or commute, so I embraced remote life from the get go - the beauty of these new platforms was that you didn’t have to physically be somewhere to manage them!

Back then I didn’t have any strategic plans for Bowda’s future; I was too busy thinking about our clients and their businesses/brands to even think about where my own was going, but I can tell you this much - I never in a million years thought I’d be where I am now. Not only surviving 11 years later, but I daresay thriving.

We have never had a niche, I always say our niche is working with anyone with a good “why” and I can confidently say I firmly believe in all of our clients’ “whys” - both past and present. We have an incredible team I care about and respect both personally and professionally, an unfailingly supportive husband who has stepped up both in the business and on the home front, as well as two healthy baby boys.

Entrepreneurship is exhausting, isolating, overwhelming, risky, and unpredictable, but it’s also liberating, creative, rewarding, transformative, and empowering.

Thank you for your support thus far, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I truly feel like we’re just getting started ✹

A/B Testing? What is THAT?!

We get it. When you’re busy doing your day to day work these marketing strategies aren’t always top of mind.

But, if there’s one thing we suggest doing with your emails, it’s A/B testing!

It essentially helps you learn what your audience likes and how you should be communicating with them by testing two versions of your emails.

For example, if you want more conversions from your emails, you can test what types of buttons your audience prefers. Do they click more on text buttons (just text with an underline) or regular buttons (the ones with the border and background).

Or, if you want a higher open rate, you can test to see if your audience likes emojis in subject lines or no emojis.

Simple things like this can really improve your email stats.

Had such a blast delivering two workshops on digital community building at the Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association’s annual conference “Building Bridges” today 🌉

In person speaking gigs (especially with non profits) always reinvigorates my passion for the work we do and organizations we support.

Getting to engage with non profit housing professionals from all over Ontario further fuelled my fire to support the impactful work these folks are doing within their communities - I love learning more about the challenges they face first hand to better understand how to help them effectively engage with their individual audiences.

A few themes that emerged from today’s workshops and conversations:

đŸ—ŁïžThe importance of paying attention to both positive AND negative conversations online. The tendency can be to lean towards one or the other (only responding to negative comments, ignoring positive or letting social media show just the highlight reel and ignoring negative comments), but it’s critical to acknowledge and recognize + respond to both in order to build trust.

đŸ‘©đŸ»â€đŸ’»More and more folks are choosing digital first. Traditional means of reaching non profit housing tenants (or any audience) might not work as well anymore. Younger generations want to be able to do literally *everything* from their phone and it’s crucial to meet your audience where they are at.

đŸ“±The need for SOPs and policies. I’d argue that any organization needs some sort of strategy/SOPs/policies when it comes to their social media, but particularly non profits. Turnover is usually high while resources are usually low, so anything that helps maintain consistency and cohesion of your online efforts is incredibly important.

I could have these kind of conversations all day, everyday, so appreciate the ONPHA for creating to space for just that 🙏

Tanya is a competitive bodybuilder, turned Reiki healer, turned virtual assistant, turned artist - we love a multi-passionate woman!

She has a BA in Art History & Film, used to compete nationally for Canada in fitness and bodybuilding, then learned the ins and outs of online business while running her Reiki practise.

Taking all this experience, she now helps women-owned online businesses like ours run smoothly while also pursuing her own artistic practice/career.
