This Christmas season, OUSC is happy to announce the return of our Koliada initiative. This year, our members can bring joy, blessings, and festive cheer to your home through traditional Ukrainian Christmas carols, creating lasting memories for you and your loved ones this holiday season..

Цього року ми з радістю сповіщаємо про нашу підтримку українського гуманітарного проекту «Золоті роки» Фонду багатонаціональних місій, який надає важливу допомогу та підтримку людям похилого віку мешканцям Запорізької області, що сильно постраждала від російської агресії. Ці люди часто стикаються з величезними труднощами, такими як втрата близьких, зруйновані будинки, переміщення та відсутність продовольчої безпеки. Їм бракує державної підтримки, соціальних заходів і фінансової допомоги для задоволення базових потреб, зокрема регулярного харчування, засобів гігієни та ліків.

This year, we are thrilled to announce our support for the Multi-Nation Mission Foundation's Ukrainian Humanitarian Project "Golden years", which provides crucial aid and support to senior citizens in the heavily impacted Zaporizhzhia region. These seniors often face immense hardships such as losing loved ones, destroyed homes, displacement, and food insecurity, They lack a supportive community, social events, and financial assistance for basic needs like regular meals, hygiene products, and medication. By directing our efforts toward this often overlooked group, we hope to make a meaningful difference in their lives.

🏠 Location: Our carolers will visit homes within Ottawa.

📅 Dates: Caroling will take place between December 14th and January 5th.

This week, our President, Daria Furtak, had the incredible opportunity to attend the Rebuild Ukraine Conference in Toronto—an event that brought together a diverse group of influential leaders to address the ongoing impact of the war in Ukraine. Discussions focused on the nation’s recovery, rebuilding efforts, and the critical role of global solidarity in supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and economic resilience.

Daria had the privilege of meeting remarkable individuals, including Paul Grod, President of the Ukrainian World Congress - Свiтовий Конґрес Українців; Her Excellency Yuliya Kovaliv, Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada; Stephen Lecce, Ontario’s Minister of Energy and Electrification; Sherif Sabawy, Ontario’s Member of Provincial Parliament for Mississauga; and Olga Smachylo, CEO of Mavka Fashion.

Daria’s participation in this important event underscores our club’s unwavering commitment to advocating for Ukraine and engaging in critical conversations on international recovery and reconstruction efforts. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Ukrainian Students’ Society of Canada (SUSK) for providing our club leaders with such invaluable opportunities.

Through participation in events like this, we connect with key stakeholders, stay informed about the latest developments, and actively contribute to the global dialogue on Ukraine’s recovery and future. SUSK’s steadfast support empowers us to represent Ukrainian youth in Canada and make meaningful contributions to Ukraine’s journey toward peace and prosperity.

NOV 19th, Ottawa, Canadian Tribute to Human Rights Monument - please share and join❤️

We invite everyone to come together and bring a friend as we express our gratitude for 1,000 days of global support for Ukraine. On this day, we stand in solidarity with communities worldwide to honor those who have supported Ukraine throughout russian war.

Right now, Ukraine faces immense challenges. Russians continue to target civilians with daily bombings, execute prisoners of war, abduct children, and invest bilions in spreading dangerous propaganda. They are also using agents around the world— including in Ottawa— to push their narrative. (Examples include figures like Dimitri Lascaris, Tamara Lorincz and David Pugliese).

That’s why it’s important now more than ever that we stay united. We must do everything we can to support Ukraine: donate, share information, speak out, and attend rallies. Visibility matters

We are planning a photo op with representatives of the countries supporting Ukraine throughout these years of russian aggression, we are going to be reading letters from kids who experienced war and listen to the chime of 585 bells that symbolize the lost voices of Ukrainian children killed by russia since the full scale invasion, and we are going to express gratitude to everyone who helped.

Join us on November 27 at 6 PM at the SAW Art Centre for an evening celebrating Ukrainian culture! 🌾 Experience a powerful photo exhibition by acclaimed Ukrainian photographers Kostyantyn and Vlada Liberovy, , live Ukrainian music, and a Ukrainian-themed lucky prize draw!

This is a chance to dive into Ukrainian heritage, meet new people, enjoy Ukrainian snacks, and support a great cause—all proceeds will help combat medic Dima raise funds for a CASEVAC.

This weekend, OUSC had the privilege of attending Advocacy Day, hosted by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC). The event brought together dedicated delegates from across Canada to Ottawa, where we presented the policy priorities of the Ukrainian Canadian community to over 50 MPs and Senators. Our discussions centered on key recommendations, including increasing military, economic, and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, taking a tougher stance on Russia, and supporting Ukrainians currently in Canada.

As a club, participating in initiatives like this is of utmost importance. While we aim to unite the Ottawa student community by hosting cultural and social events, our main goal is to bring awareness to the war through advocacy, fundraising and education. Initiatives like this allow us to amplify the voices of Ukrainians in Canada.

Thank you to UCC and UCC Ottawa for organizing such a meaningful initiative and to all the MPs and Senators for their dedication to Ukraine.

During the last weekend of September, members of our organization had the esteemed privilege of attending and assisting with the 18th Annual Danyliw Research Seminar, hosted by the Chair of Ukrainian Studies.

This distinguished seminar brought together scholars, experts, authors, and dedicated individuals from around the world to address pressing topics related to the ongoing war, Ukrainian history, culture, identity, and resilience. Panels explored critical themes, including life under bombings, the complexities of social reintegration, the role of language in national identity, and issues surrounding oligarchy and corruption.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Dominique Arel and the Danyliw Foundation for their continued efforts in organizing this impactful event each year. Our appreciation also goes to the seminar planning and student teams, as well as to all the speakers and panelists for sharing their valuable research and perspectives throughout the three-day conference.

Our members gained significant insights and look forward to supporting and attending future Danyliw Seminars for years to come.
