Sounds Odd is back with a show that has been in the works for many months, but has finally and beautifully come together with the help of co-organizer Megan Jensen ( on Instagram). Join Mars Aspen, Ethan Mitchell, and Brampton's Leah Holtom for an interactive writers-in-the-round style show, and a home-cooked dinner provided by our lovely hosts ❤ To reserve your spot, DM Sounds Odd on Facebook or Instagram, or you can email [email protected].

Shoutout to the folks from the Sunday Night R***e who helped this all come together, and whose wonderful house shows inspired the format.

Hey everyone - Oddeline here with some updates regarding Sounds Odd.

Last week, my collaborator and co-founder, Ben, decided to leave the project to focus on his solo work as a producer, and I wish him all the best in this endeavour. As a result, the remaining Odd Songs videos that we filmed with , , and will now be released on their individual channels. Make sure you follow them to see and hear their awesome performances, and to support them as all three are incredibly lovely, talented, hard-working artists!

Moving forward, Sounds Odd is (for the time being) a one-woman operation - and by one woman, I mean one + a wonderful network of friends and collaborators across 3 cities ❤ New Sounds Odd projects in audio, video, and events are already underway and I'm so excited to begin sharing them with you in the new year. However, the rest of 2023 will be a bit of a rebuilding phase, so things will be quiet online for a while as I work away in the background putting together the next batch of things.

I'll still be keeping an eye on emails and DMs, so feel free to reach out in the meantime. I've also put together a form you can fill out if you are interested in collaborating, and a survey for independent musical artists to share some info on their experiences. Filling out either can help shape the direction Sounds Odd takes in the future, so if you have time, please check those out at https://soundsoddrecords.com

Also, you may have noticed that I have taken down the former Sounds Odd logo. This means I won't be selling the remaining tee shirts - I have a few leftover that I'm happy to give away, so message if you'd like one!

As always, thanks for your support and interest. The response Sounds Odd has gotten from fans and artists alike is my primary motivator to keep the project going as long as I have the time and energy to do so.

See you in the new year ❤

Meet your lineup for Friday, September 29th: Annie Martel

Annie is a Canadian singer-songwriter and one of Ottawa's jewels. Her sound is driven by warm, dark tones: aged guitar strings, dusty piano, and velvet vocals. It evokes the soft nostalgia of fuzzy, black and white film clips: ones we want to replay over and over until morning. By sharing her songs, Annie offers her listeners an opportunity for reflection, connection, and healing.

See you at City Sounds, Friday at 5:00pm!

Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of hearing a couple of artists from Halifax play a house show hosted by The Sunday Night R***e. Ben Kissner brought his camera and caught this great performance of "Eugene and Me" by Ian Van der Wee featuring Long Call. Check it out on the Sounds Odd YouTube channel and subscribe for more high quality videos of live music!

Our final artist for the show this evening (Saturday, September 23rd) is Erik Johnson-Scherger!

Erik is a forward-looking violinist, classically-trained and professionally-seasoned as a sideman, session musician, and bandleader. His solo act features otherworldly delays, resonant filters, and overdriven synth textures mixed with conservatory-trained virtuosity and freewheeling use of live-looping to create a post-classical sonic thesis. When not playing gigs or teaching music lessons, you can usually find Erik experimenting with cookie recipes or running games of Lasers and Feelings.

We're happy to introduce the second artist for our show with Sofar this Saturday, September 23rd: Robin Kenny! Tickets are on sale now at www.soundsoddrecords.com.

Robin Kenny is an Ottawa-based singer-songwriter known for her cuts of psychedelic folk, indie rock, and art pop. Having taken piano and singing lessons since childhood, Robin Kenny studied jazz voice at Carleton University under the mentorship of Juno-winner Kellylee Evans. Robin's first two singles, "Nothing Ever Feels Right" and "Harbinger" (2022), seamlessly blend her jazz influence with candid lyrics, off-kilter sounds, and a dreamy production style influenced by indietronica. Currently, Robin is working on new music in collaboration with Sounds Odd's own Ben Kissner who also took this picture 📸

This week, we'll be introducing you to the artists playing our show with Sofar this Saturday, September 23rd. Our first artist is Andromède! Tickets are for sale on our website at soundsoddrecords.com/events.

Andromède is a two headed princess, a warrior and a healer. This Montreal-based alternative-folk duo composed of singers and multi-instrumentalists Marie-Neiges Harvey and Roxane Reddy charms and surprises all at the same time. Their first album Andromède invites the listeners to immerse themselves in a sumptuous universe where vocal harmonies and poignant lyrics reign. The duo is currently working on a new folk-rock EP, Microclimats, which will be released in March 2024.

Our first two mailouts went out this week. The second, sent out today, is an interview of Alexis Castrogiovanni with Oddeline to talk about Alexis' new song "Party Trick," the inspirations behind her songs and style, and what she's learned from the challenges she's faced in her career so far. It's also available to read on Medium.

From now on, we'll send out regular updates on new releases and upcoming shows through our mailing list - if that's of interest, you can subscribe through our website.

Alexis Castrogiovanni is a Montreal-based singer, songwriter, poet, cellist, and our most recent collaborator at Sounds Odd! Influenced by a diverse range of artists from multiple disciplines, such as Nina Simone, Feist, and Pina Bausch, Alexis' debut EP Someday My Thoughts Will Be Like a Range of Mountains (2022) is an enthralling (and in our opinion, far too brief) listen. Alexis captivated the audience at our curated Sofar show in April and was the featured artist for our third Odd Songs video, playing her unreleased song "Party Trick". Tomorrow (July 5th), the audio from that session releases to digital streaming services and it is available now for download on Bandcamp! Links are in our bio, happy listening :)
