“How are you?” is an overused phrase everyday and it has an autopilot response- “I am Ok”, “I am fine”, “I feel great” - even if our life is a disaster. Often when we ask this question, we just walk away and do not even care about the response. We should ask this question sincerely and perhaps re phrase it depending on the person’s situation - “How are you doing?” “How are you holding up?” “What’s up my friend?” Then stop and care about the person’s response. You will be surprised he/she actually needs help or someone who would listen.
