New Glasgow Regional Police arrest man after several 911 calls

New Glasgow Regional Police has charged a 57-year-old male following multiple incidents involving false 911 calls, impersonation of a police officer, and other criminal offences.

At approximately 12:57 AM on December 30th, 2024, police received multiple 911 calls from an individual reporting an ongoing firearms-related incident near the intersection of Marsh and Temperance Streets, New Glasgow. The male subsequently also made a call impersonating a police officer to obtain information about the investigation.

Upon further investigation, officers determined that the reported firearm incident was false and that the individual was not a police officer.
The male suspect was located and arrested on Washington Street, New Glasgow, and subsequently charged with:
Personating a Police Officer (Section 130, Criminal Code)
Public Mischief (Section 140, Criminal Code)

Shortly after his release, police received further information regarding an incident that occurred at the suspect's residence prior to the false 911 calls. As a result, the male was arrested and additional charges were laid, including:
Forcible Confinement (Section 279(2), Criminal Code)
Assault (Section 266, Criminal Code)
Resist Arrest (Section 129, Criminal Code)
Fail to Comply with Undertaking (Section 145(4), Criminal Code)

The accused is currently held in custody and is scheduled to appear in Pictou Provincial Court at a later date.
