We built a couple more raised beds to add to our garden and I’m so happy with how the turned out 🪴
🌱We built one 4x4ft and one 4x8ft
🌱We used yellow cedar wood. Cedar is a great option for garden beds because it has natural oils that make it decay and insect resistant
🌱we used 3 1/2 inch deck screws and drilled 3 to each corner. The boards we used are thick so we decided to not use corner brackets
Grand total was $154 for both garden beds

🌿Monstera Albo : needs lots of light & something to climb. Super low maintenance and BEAUTIFUL 🤍 they’re also going down in price so that’s a bonus
🌿Pothos: any type really 😅 I have a few and they’re all very low maintenance, they grow really quick and tolerate all lighting conditions
🌿Snake plant: The type of plant that likes to be ignored 😅 doesn’t like to be overwatered and low light tolerant

Do you cut off a leaf as soon as it turns yellow? Or do you wait for it to fall off on its own?
I personally cut them off right away because I don’t like looking at them 😅 once a leaf turns yellow it’s no longer serving a purpose. Cutting it off allows the plant to focus its energy on pushing out new growth!
Out with the old, in with the new!

I haven’t been outside in the garden in so long, and while I didn’t do anything except look around, it feels so good 😅
This year I’m only planting things we’re going to eat, last year I planted so much Swiss chard and we didn’t eat any of it!
I’m planning on planting:
🍅Tomatoes, a garden must have!
🌶️peppers, specifically jalapenos
🥕carrots, I had no luck last year so fingers crossed 🤞🏼
🪴 herbs: cilantro, chives, rosemary, parsley, dill
🥬 leafy greens: lettus, arugula and kale
🌿 squash & pumpkins
I already have:

🫐blueberries
❤️raspberries
🪻lavender
🍇grapes, I had no luck last year but I’m hopeful 😅

How often I feed my starter is one sourdough rule I always end up breaking.
In a perfect world, I would feed it everyday if it was on the counter and every week if I was in the fridge. But life always gets in the way, and I’m a stronger believer that sourdough should work around your life, not the other way around.
It’s been a couple months since I last fed my starter, and while it was in my fridge it developed a protective layer called a hooch.
What I do is drain off the hooch, and feed my starter with a higher ratio of flour and water. For this feeding the starter:flour:water ratio was 1:4:4
It will take longer for your starter to get back to its bubbly state - for this feeding it was over 12 hours before it formed those beautiful bubbles. If you don’t see those bubbles during the first feed, wait a day, and feed it again!

Part 3 of 3 the final chapter 😅
Chase brought the stinky roots and soil outside and I swear it made my entire house smell for a couple of days 🤢
I attempted to save some of the leaves by chopping it all up, spraying it with rubbing alcohol, and putting it in water to root. After a couple of days it was apparent that the leaves were too badly damaged. Thankfully my top cuttings were in good shape, so I put those in water to root. After a couple weeks I put them in a really, really, REALLY, chunky soil mix. To was maybe 10% soil and the rest perlite and orchid bark.
I put a grow light over top of it and it didn’t do anything for months. But then it put out a couple baby leaves and I saw a glimpse of hope!
After a couple more months it put out two beautiful leaves with fenestrations!
I’m honestly surprised that it was able to pull through, but I’m so happy it did!
