Chief and Council
Cree Nation of Eastmain
Eastmain, QC J0M 1W0
Dear Chief and Council Members,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. My name is Cayce Mark-Stewart, and I am a proud member of the Cree Nation of Eastmain. As an amateur runner living with ulcerative colitis, I have embraced running as a means to challenge myself and inspire others. I have successfully completed two marathons with times of 4:09:44 and 3:47:16, all achieved through self-taught and self-trained efforts. Since April 6, 2022, I have committed to running every day, missing only one day. My goal is to continue pushing my limits by participating in greater challenges for a good cause, including running the six major marathons, the Leadville 100, and other ultra-marathons.
Building on my previous accomplishments, I am excited to share my next ambitious goal: participating in the Ottawa Ironman in August 2025. This event represents not only a personal challenge but also an opportunity to inspire and motivate others within our community to pursue their dreams and strive for excellence.
To achieve this goal, I am seeking sponsorship to help cover the expenses associated with my training and participation in the Ironman. Specifically, I require assistance in procuring essential equipment such as a triathlon bike, bike helmet, wetsuit, running shoes, and other necessary training gear. Additionally, the entry fee for the Ironman is a significant expense that I need support with. Currently, I am living on Cree School Board Post-Secondary Funds, which cover my educational expenses but leave limited resources for my training needs. The deadline for the early entry fee for the Ironman is July 21, 2024, which adds urgency to my request. Your assistance will be instrumental in enabling me to fully prepare for and participate in this demanding event. A detailed budget report is attached for your review.
Furthermore, I have a vision to give back to our community in a meaningful way. Upon completing the Ironman, I aspire to run the Eastmain Access Road to raise funds for our community or a chosen charity. Following this, I plan to take on the challenge of running the Billy Diamond Highway for the same purpose. These initiatives aim to not only raise funds but also to promote a spirit of determination and community support.
I am committed to recognizing your support throughout my journey. I plan to provide regular updates on my training progress and event participation via social media and community newsletters. Additionally, I am open to discussing further ways to highlight and acknowledge your sponsorship.
I would be immensely grateful for any assistance the Cree Nation of Eastmain can provide towards achieving these goals. Additionally, I am eager to hear from you on how else I can contribute to our community. Your guidance and suggestions on furthering our collective mission would be highly valued.
Thank you once again for your past support and for considering my current request. I am proud to represent our community and look forward to the opportunity to bring more recognition and pride to Eastmain.
Warm regards,
Cayce Mark Stewart

The First Nations Executive Education would like to congratulate the team that developed the "La bienveillance Latérale – Mam-Mawiomi-ma8osak" project as part of the "Becoming an Agile and Innovative Leader" program for Chiefs, Grand Chiefs, and Board of Directors Presidents. This project, which involves establishing an ethics commission through the Bureau de l'Autodétermination of the APNQL, was adopted by resolution on June 15th during the Assembly of Chiefs of the APNQL. 🙌

This achievement clearly illustrates the importance of projects undertaken by participants in the First Nations Leadership School programs and their ongoing commitment to making a positive impact within First Nations communities and organizations.

UPDATE ON ROADS and ACCESS TO FOREST AND FORESTRY ROADS

Due to the low rainfall received in recent days and the low rainfall announced for the next several days, the risk of fire indices may go from very high to extreme.

In order to ensure protection of the population and to best support the SOPFEU in their efforts in their operations, the Minstry of Natural Resrources and Forests (MRNF) will expand the ban on access to forests and forestry roads as of Monday, June 19 at 12:00PM

It remains important that community members continue to follow instructions and recommendations from their local leadership and public safety teams who have been carefully working in collaboration with SOPFEU and other experts to ensure our safety. Please continue to use caution and remain alert for any updates that may be provided from your local teams
