I’m really enjoying Instagram Threads after all. Unlike X (formerly Twitter), I actually get some engagement when I post something on the Threads app. And now, thanks to the many positive replies to my question, Im ready to start doing YouTube again. I’ve even been told that being 40+ gives me an unfair advantage.

And how about you? Are you over 40 and do you have a YouTube channel?

All these microphones just to say Happy Valentine’s Day!

And yes, you can call me Microphone Man, because indeed, I ❤️ Mics!

Now, out of curiosity, what mic do you use?

Microphones in this photo: Rode PodMic, Stellar X2 Condenser, Zoom H5 XY Capsule, Shure SM7B, Rode VideoMicro, Rode Video Micro II, Deity V-Mic D3 Pro.
Mics on my shirt (not visible): DJI Mic, Rode Wireless Go, Rode Lavalier II.

‘The Ring’ in downtown Montreal.

I have to admit that I often take for granted what the city in which I live has to offer. Are you the same?

For example, it took me several years after moving to Vancouver, BC, for me to start rollerblading around the Seawall in Stanley Park (yes at the time rollerblading was a thing).

Of course I’ve seen ‘The Ring’ while driving by, but I never actually took the time to snap a photo. So today —while I was downtown— I decided to do just that despite the fact that it’s just another ordinary Fall season day.

Do I look like a professional cameraman? Especially while I pretend to turn the follow-focus on the camera just for this photo? LOL!

For these photos I used the Halide app on my iPhone (Halide Mark II Pro Camera).

Have you ever tried the Halide app to take photos? And which photo here do you think is the better one (photo 1 or photo 2)?

03/25/2022

Yes indeed! That's a Rode Pod Mic and a Rodecaster Pro mixing board that I'm using here.

And how about you? Have you ever used either one of these? If yes, what do you think? And if not, what do you use for your podcasting needs?

On a side note, and just in case you're wondering, I used the Canva app to remove the background from the original photo and add in that animated TV studio background.

Just got myself a Rode PodMic and I absolutely love it!

Not only is she a beautiful microphone, but my voice also sounds great when I speak into it.

So now for my questions of the day: what microphone brand and model do you use (if you do in fact use a microphone)? Or which microphone brand and model would you like to buy if you had to buy one?

And do you podcast? If yes, feel free to leave a comment with the name of your podcast.

Canva this and Canva that.

This is a simple portrait of me and my fugly face. I shot the photo in front of my new fashion grey seamless paper backdrop. Then I used Canva to add an outline. I figured this way my otherwise boring photo might attract some additional eyes on the Instagram feed.

What do you think? And let me know, have you ever used Canva for your graphic designs?

Here is my video studio setup using my new fashion grey seamless paper backdrop.

What do you think?

01/10/2022

Finally received the roll of fashion grey seamless backdrop paper that I had ordered last month. It will be very helpful for all of my upcoming photo and video projects.

Have you ever used seamless backdrop paper? And if so, which colour?

12/01/2021

New post on my Instagram: President_Jade

Now, which one do you prefer? The dark background or the one with some light?

And yes, I definitely need to get myself a roll of seamless background paper to replace the wrinkled muslin backdrop that I am currently using.

I also included a quick timelapse video that I made setting up my backdrop. To create this timelapse I used the Lifelapse app. Feel free to visit my Instagram if you'd like to see it.

Finally, I used Canva to create a short looping video of the two photos together and to add text behind my head on the second photo. Since videos and animated photos are supposed to be more eye-catching on a social media feed compared to static photos, I am anxious to see if this will result in more engagement.

Now, feel free to send me a DM if you have any questions. And again, please let me know by leaving a comment below whether you prefer the photo with the dark background or the one where the background is lit?

How is your day going?

I like this photo of me. And instead of posting it as a simple static photo, I easily removed the background using Canva Pro and added in some different murals.

In my opinion it makes it more dynamic and colourful. Although, I'm plenty enough dynamic and colourful on my own. Do you see what I did there? It's called self-love and I really do indeed love myself, LOL! Actually, I hope that you love you too!

Now, out of curiosity, have you ever used Canva? Let me know by leaving a comment below.

This is a test only of the 'Jade On Air' podcast as I sort out some technical issues.

This is a quick design that I made using Canva. I wanted to test the direct share to Facebook feature, so here it is and hopefully it works.

Have you ever used Canva?

Personally I absolutely love it! And I highly recommend that you give it a try if you want to design some awesome graphics for your social media, etc.

Yes! Total freedom and liberation at the 2021 World Naked Bike Ride (Montreal edition).

After the last year of feeling locked-up and confined because of COVID-19, I finally got to get out in public wearing nothing but my birthday suit. That's right. I'm not even wearing a mask (except for the fake virtual mask that I had to place between my legs for Instagram, LOL!)

Interestingly, I've come to the realization that I only ever meet new people — and particularly beautiful women — when I'm naked in public. Since that is the case, maybe I should be naked in public more often?

And how about you? Would you ever dare to do such a thing? Let me know by leaving a comment below.

Are you afraid of heights? Because I am. And every time that I fly my DJI Mini 2 drone high in the sky I get a little case of acrophobia.

In this shot I sent the drone straight from where I was at the Kondiaronk Belvedere towards the Place Ville Marie building (which is 47-storeys high in case you were wondering).

Yes, I do need to practice my drone piloting skills some more. But this flight was still fun, exciting and definitely worth it. After all, Montreal is a beautiful city and I am very fortunate to be able to capture it on video from high above.

What do you think? Have you ever flown a drone above Montreal? Or maybe the thought of doing so is too scary for you?

When is the last time you played a game of tennis?

For me it was thirty years ago before I finally hit the court once again. Yes, I was 13 years old back then and there was no such thing as Snapchat Spectacles to capture the play from my point of view.

Time has definitely flown by so quickly and so much has changed since then. But there is one thing that hasn't changed. And that's the game of tennis. Because it's a sport that will always be fun to play, right?

You might think it's silly to use a flash or a photo light on a bright sunny day, right? Trust me it's not.

By placing your photo subject in the open shade and using a fill light you can effectively reduce or eliminate any harsh shadows.

And that is exactly what I did here. I brought along my brand new Yongnuo YN360 III Pro LED Light Wand (yes that's quite the mouthful) to use as a fill light.

Now the question is, which one of these photos is your favourite (swipe left to see them all)?

Also, I used the awesome NOMO Vintage Camera app on my iPhone to take these photos. Have you ever used this app? If not, I highly recommend that you give it a try.

For the first two photos, it's as if I were using a Contax 135 T3 camera. And for the last two photos, it's as if I were using a Leica Minilux camera.

So what do you think? Let me know by leaving a comment below 😃👍🏼🎬

How have you been? Doing well I hope!

Now here is the studio light that I used to take a photo of super beautiful Marie.

And I just posted that exact photo of her on my Instagram page.

So feel free to check it out and give it a big fat like!

Alright. Where do I start?

Have you ever taken photos using RGB lights?

Because that is what I did tonight. And I have to admit that it's quite the learning experience.

Obviously these photos are a little more "hot" than I would have preferred. LOL! I know what you're thinking! Not that kind of "hot", silly you! But "hot" as in overexposed and over-saturated.

At first I was inclined to think that these photos, just like everything else I create, are pure garbage. But then I remembered that you can't get better at something if you don't try. Right?

So here they are, my first series of portrait photos shot with RGB lighting.

Now, what do you think? And out of curiosity: which of these photos do you like the most? Number 1, 2, 3, or 4?

Thank you for letting me know :)
