Rihanna Sets New Record as Most Certified Female Artist in U.S. with Most Diamond Singles

The Barbadian superstar has secured four new Diamond certifications for her singles “Umbrella,” featuring Jay Z, “Stay(11x),” “Work” (featuring Drake), and “Needed Me.” This achievement makes her the female artist with the most Diamond-certified singles in RIAA history, totaling seven.

“Umbrella” becomes Jay-Z’s second Diamond certification and “Work” becomes Drake’s sixth Diamond certification.

Diamond in the US is an award by the Recording Industry Association Of America given for sales amounting 10 million units and The Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA) takes into account both downloads and on-demand audio and/or video single streams towards the required thresholds. The formula for calculating is 150 on-demand streams is equivalent to one download and a song is re-certified after each million units in sales.

Rihanna is the only artist from the Caribbean with a Diamond single Certification in RIAA history.
