🚨NEW EPISODE🚨

In this episode, we discuss...

The Montreal Canadiens have been on fire lately. They have won 4 of their last 5 games. All four wins were against the last 4 Stanley cup winners. These were games that most people and analysts expected them to lose. Currently, they are one point away from the final wild card spot and are officially in the mix. For those hoping for a top 5 pick in the upcoming draft this recent surge spells disaster. For those that were hoping that the Habs would take a step forward this season, are excited and eyeing that last playoff spot.

Juraj Slafkovsky is still putting up points, but the eye test has not matched the production. Some Habs fans are really starting to lose their patience with him. Some seem to forget how young Slafkovsky and that he is actually younger than Lane Hutson (by 1 month). At only the age of 20 years old, is it fair to get on Slafkovsky's case? Has he undeservingly become the new whipping boy?

Habs goaltender Jakub Dobes is making history. In a very small sample size, he has looked incredible. Currently, he is 2-0, has allowed only 1 goal in both of those games VS two of the best teams in the NHL. While it has only been 2 games, should the Montreal Canadiens continue to search for a veteran goalie? Or perhaps Monty is now the veteran goalie?

In this episode, we discuss...

The Montreal Canadiens traded Justin Barron to the Nashville Predators for veteran defenseman Alexandre Carrier. Carrier has already played 2 games with the Habs and you can already see his impact. We give our thoughts on the trade, Carrier, and Justin Barron's time with the Habs.

Jake Evans has been on fire lately. As it stands right now, Evans is 4th on the team in scoring. It's a contract year for Evans. Should the Habs re-sign him or trade him? If the Habs were to re-sign him, what would a contract look like?

Sam Montembeault played in back-to-back games. Nowadays it is very rare for a goalie to play both games in a back-to-back. Clearly, MSL and the coaching staff have lost confidence and Cayden Primeau (rightfully so). What's next for Primeau?

Patrik Laine has scored 8 goals in his first 9 games with the Montreal Canadiens. All 8 goals came on the powerplay and since coming back from his injury the Habs powerplay looks completely different. We haven't seen the powerplay with this much movement and excitement in years, maybe decades. Are we witnessing the best Habs powerplay in our lifetime (35-40 years)

In this episode, we discuss...

Whether the Habs are really in the mix or not. Laine has not looked out of place and did not waste any time by scoring a pair of goals, but even with Laine in the lineup, are the Habs still a lottery team or an in "the mix" team.

There has been a lot of attention on Head Coach Martin St. Louis. Some people questioning his decisions (or indecisions). Do we still believe that he is the guy to continue developing this young Habs team? What to do with Dach and Slafkovsky?

The Habs have played about 30% of their games for the 2024-25 season. At this point, should we hope that they finish bottom 5 or push hard for a wild card spot?

We discuss all that and more.

Question(s) of the week: Barring any possibility of a trade, what would you do with Kirby Dach? What would you do to get him going?

In your opinion, is MSL still the guy to develop this team during this rebuild?

🚨NEW EPISODE🚨

In this episode, we discuss...

Why is Lane Hutson not playing on the 1st powerplay line? He has proven that he can handle the minutes. He creates high danger chances, has the mobility and the hockey IQ. We try to explain the reasons why Martin St. Louis has not played him on the 1st PP on a consistent basis.

Jake Evans has been playing great this season, should the Habs re-sign him or trade him at the trade deadline? If they were to sign him, what would a contract look like for him?

From the following scenarios, if we can only pick one, which would we pick? Cole Caufield scoring 40 goals OR Nick Suzuki posting 90 pts, OR Lane Hutson winning the Calder

Some fans are still bringing up the Habs passing on Michkov for Reinbacher. Is it still too early and unfair to call it a bust pick or a mistake by the Habs?

🚨NEW EPISODE🚨

This is our 100th episode and sadly our beloved Montreal Canadiens are not putting us in a celebratory mood.

With that being said, we want to thank our subscribers, friends, family members, and everyone who has been with us from the start.

For those of you just joining, thank you and welcome to the channel.

In this episode, we discuss...

about the current struggles the Canadiens are going through and discuss some of the causes as well as what the number 1 problem the team has currently.

The players are not showing up, some of the coaching decisions have been questionable, and the confidence seems to be at an all-time low.

The question is, are we currently witnessing the Habs lowest point of this season? Can it even get any lower? They can only go up from here, RIGHT?!

In this episode (RECORDED BEFORE GAME VS ST-LOUIS), we discuss...

The Montreal Canadiens defensive woes and the rumor that Kent Hughes is making call for a top 4 right-handed defenseman. Also, we discuss Martin St. Louis' press conference and what he said about Arber Xhekaj.

Kirby Dach is definitely rusty and not playing to his potential, but at the moment, there are some other concerns about his game. Is it time to be worried about him as a 2nd line center? Or is he just shaking off some of the rust off his game?

In this episode, we discuss...

Our thoughts and feelings of the Canadiens start to the season. Any noteworthy moments?

Should we start being concerned about Cayden Primeau at the NHL level? While he hasn't had many starts yet, he has yet to seize his opportunities and show that he belongs at the NHL level. He has good moments, but he seems to struggle with consistency as the games go on.

Everyone is talking about Lane Hutson. Right now, does he deserve the praise and "flowers" he is getting? Or is it too much, too soon?

We play a little game where Matt asks us to pick one or the other. For this game, Matt asks Vito and Dave to pick one from the following list

PK Subban OR Lane Hutson
Saku Koivu OR Nick Suzuki
Juraj Slafkovsky OR Alex Kovalev
Patrick Roy OR Carey Price
Randy Cunneyworth OR Domenic Ducharme

🚨NEW EPISODE🚨

In this episode, we discuss...

The Montreal Canadiens pre-season is FINALLY over. Were there any standouts? Who did well, surprised us the most, and should they make the team.

Arber Xhekaj had a very interesting pre-season. He was physical, took a lot of penalty minutes, defended his teammates, and was the "sheriff" the whole time. The question is, has the aspects of his game evolved enough to cement his position on the bottom pairing, over Jayden Struble?

Well, the Habs powerplay continued where it left off last season. It's been terrible. Are we going to see more of the same or is it just that Martin St. Louis has not had enough time to work on the powerplay?

🚨NEW EPISODE🚨
In this episode, we discuss...

Patrik Laine had to be helped off the ice following a knee on knee hit with Maple Leafs player Cedric Paré. The hit did not look good and neither does the injury. Sadly, Laine has not yet played a regular season game with the Montreal Canadiens, and it looks like he could be out for a while. We're hoping for the best, but it did not look good. To make matters worse, former 5th overall pick David Reinbacher also went down with an apparent knee injury. Let's just say that we and our fellow Habs fans are very discouraged right now. We're hoping for the best but it does not look good. Both players were seen leaving the Bell Centre with a knee brace and on crutches. The question everyone is asking is whether the hit was dirty or not.

Should the NHL re-visit the pre-season format/rules? Are there too many pre-season games being played?

Xhekaj took matters into his own hands and decided to stick up for his teammate by going after Paré. Many agree and believe that Paré had to expect someone (Xhekaj) to force him to defend himself after injuring a key player on the Montreal Canadiens roster. However, some do not agree with how Xhekaj went about it and are comparing it to the Moore/Bertuzzi situation. Which was one of the worst gestures and injuries to have ever happened in the NHL. Do we think that Xhekaj did the right thing? Was what he did as bad as some (very few) people say it was?

The Habs bottom 6, where does it rank in the NHL? Assuming everyone is healthy, and that everyone plays their role and to their strengths, do the Habs have one of the best bottom 6 lines in the entire NHL?

Lane Hutson is making it easier and easier for Habs management to keep him up at the NHL level and insert him into the main defensive lineup. With his style of play, potential and offensive skills, could he finish the season as a contender for the Calder? What are the criteria a defenseman must hit to be a nominee or even win the Calder? Could Lane Hutson be the first Montreal Canadien to win the Calder since Ken Dryden (1971)?

🚨NEW EPISODE🚨

In this episode, we discuss...

So far, Lane Hutson has been a standout in every game that he has played for the Montreal Canadiens. Whether it was the 2 games VS Detroit or the prospects games, everyone notices when he is on the ice. His edge work and IQ are off the charts good. His skating and mobility is very Quinn Hughes like. Will he make mistakes in his very young career, absolutely, but the pros definitely outweigh the cons with him. The question is, is he ready for a full 82 games at the NHL level?

At the annual Montreal Canadiens golf tournament, Martin St. Louis confirmed that the Habs will not bring in a replacement for Alex Burrows and that MSL will run the powerplay. Will it be more of the same or something completely different?

Vegas odd have been released and have the Montreal Canadiens finishing the season with 76 pts. The exact number they finished with last season. They're wrong! Right? Well, we give our thoughts on it and provide the over and under. As a sub question, we give the over or under whether Dach will post over or under 70 pts (if healthy)

🚨NEW EPISODE🚨

In this episode, we discuss...

On August 19, 2024, the Montreal Canadiens acquired forward Patrik Laine and 2026 2nd round pick for defenseman Jordan Harris.

Patrik Laine is a 26-year-old big sized winger (6'5") and was drafted 2nd overall in the 2016 NHL draft. He has scored 30+ goals twice and 40+ goals once. He has the ability to be a top line impact forward. When he is focused and engaged, he can change the course of game. He has one of the heaviest shots in the entire NHL and his release is up there with some of the best. He has posted 117 pts in his last 129 games and has a career goal per game average of ~35 goals. From a health perspective, his last few seasons have been a little rough. However, his points production has been very solid on a very bad team, while going through some personal issues.

Jordan Harris was a true professional and by all accounts, a very good person. However, there wasn't any place for him on the Montreal Canadiens roster. We wish him the best of luck.

We have spoken about Laine to the Habs for quite some time now. Admittedly, when the rumors first surfaced up, we did not hate the idea of Laine with the Habs, but we had our reservations and concerns. As time went on, and as we got into the dead part of the offseason, we started to really see the benefits of taking a chance on a player like Laine. You can refer to Episodes 87 and 92 to hear our thoughts on the Laine to the Habs Rumors.

Fast forward to today, the trade happened. Laine is a Hab. Is it a good thing? tune in to find out what we think.

Question(s) of the week (Respond in YouTube comments):
Are you happy the Habs acquired Laine?

The Montreal Canadiens signed 3 of their RFAs to new contracts. Arber Xhekaj signed for 2 years at a $1.3 million AAV, Justin Barron 2 years at a $1.15 million AAV, and Kaiden Guhle 6 years at a $5.55 million AAV. We give our thoughts on the contracts and what this could mean for the Canadiens going forward. Matt thinks that Guhle getting a 6-year contract instead of 8 is interesting. Tune in to find out why.

There have been a lot of rumors swirling around social media about Patrick Laine and the Montreal Canadiens. We have spoken about Laine and the Montreal Canadiens in the past (episode 87). Has our opinion on Laine changed since then, do we think that Laine for the next 2 years would be a good fit for the Montreal Canadiens. Knowing that he doesn't have to be "The Guy" in Montreal, would that help him to take his game to the next level? We discuss all of that and more.

NHL.com released their projected lineup for the Montreal Canadiens. After analyzing the lineup, we feel that the way they made the lineup feels very lazy. Almost as though they put no real thought into it.

Out of Hutson, Reinbacher and Mailloux, who is most likely to make the team out of camp? Of the players mentioned, when looking at their overall talent and skillset, who is our favorite player?

On another podcast, Michael Pezzetta spoke about the tax situation in Montreal. Basically, he said the "quiet" part out loud. Should the NHL do something to even the playing field between higher taxed teams and teams that operate at a lower tax i.e. Florida, Tampa, Dallas, etc.

Question of the week (Reply under episode comments on YouTube): Out of Hutson, Reinbacher and Mailloux, who do you think has the highest overall talent, skillset, and toolbox? and between them who is your favorite and why?

🚨NEW EPISODE🚨

In this episode, we discuss...

The Habs have drafted the game breaking talent that they have needed for a very long time. A player who some have said is the highest skilled player to be drafted by the Canadiens since Guy Lafleur. That player is Ivan Demidov. We are not saying that he is the next Guy Lafleur, but we are incredibly excited and happy to even hear those two names brought up in the same conversation. Time will tell, but some have suggested that his floor is a 70-80 pts player, and his ceiling is 100 points. Again, time will tell.

The Canadiens came out as winners in this this year's draft. In addition to drafting Demidov, they also traded up to 21 (from 26) to eventually draft Michael Hage. A player most thought would be drafted between 17-20. He grew up a Habs fan, his parents were/are Habs fans, and some have compared him to Jordan Kyrou. Again, time will tell.

In the 3rd round, they drafted a name that you will all recognize, Koivu. That's right! The Habs drafted Saku Koivu's son, Aatos Koivu. Such a feel-good story right there.

Who could the Canadiens target in the free agency? Who could be a good fit? Given how the draft went, do they and should they go after some free agents?
