Turbo Recordings was founded by Tiga in Montreal back in 1998. 25 years later, the label continues to impact electronic music on a global scale. The list of artists who have released music on the label is a veritable 'who's who' of top-level talent spanning a broad musical range. Our bespoke balance of untethered musical output, paired with our ongoing commitment to beautiful design, has earned Tu
rbo immense respect in the dance music industry and a cult following among fans worldwide. Stemming from Tiga’s experiences in the Montreal underground scene as a rave promoter and nightclub owner in the early 90’s, Turbo Recordings was founded as a platform to harness & develop the community that was building during the early days of electronic music. Tiga & Turbo have been foundational pillars of Canadian electronic music since the genre’s very inception.
300+ releases later, the label has been integral in the success of acts like Chromeo, Azari & III, Gesaffelstein, Duke Dumont, ANNA, Charlotte de Witte, Kenny Glasgow, and Tiga himself. The plaudits are endless : from JUNO awards to chart topping singles to club cult classics - Turbo has been at the forefront of sound recording for a quarter-century. Hit tracks include Tiga’s Sunglasses At Night and Let’s Go Dancing, Azari & III’s Hungry For The Power, Duke Dumont’s The Giver, Gesaffelstein’s OPR, and Chromeo’s Fancy Footwork. While offering a launching pad for some of the most successful electronic acts of our time, Turbo has also released projects from legendary names in the scene : Richie Hawtin, Chilly Gonzales, Moby & Fever Ray most notably. A seasoned pedigree for A&R has kept Turbo at the cutting edge, consistently pushing the boundaries of electronic music to new heights. Despite the complicated & fickle nature of the rapidly changing music industry, Turbo has remained commited to Montreal & it’s local dance scene, while continuing to serve as an ambassador for Canadian electronic music to the global masses. Over the last 25 years, Turbo & our artists have hosted shows at some of the most legendary venues in the world - from Coachella to Sónar Festival to Berghain to Stereo to Tomorrowland and beyond. Turbo has ensured Canadian music remains at the forefront of Techno since day one. Visual art & design has been a pillar of the imprint at every step. Turbo has collaborated with internationally renowned graphic artists such as Virgil Abloh, Wolfgang Tillmans, David Rudnick, and Cali Dewitt. Remaining firmly at the innovative intersection between visual design & sound recording has propelled Turbo’s impact across artistic communities. When it comes to Canadian electronic music - Turbo has been at the top since the very start. 25 years later, it’s only just begun.
