The Upper Thames elementary school performance of Budget Cinderella takes place tonight & tomorrow (Friday) at 7 p.m. at the school. You don't want to miss it! It's funny, musical (featuring older hits all parents will love), timeless and outstanding in all regards. It's hard to believe the actors are in Grades 4-6!

“Public Announcement”

From the Cemetery Board and the Parish of St. Vincent De Paul Church – Mitchell, Ont.

The St Vincent De Paul Cemetery Board is very saddened by the misguided actions of a few individuals who chose to vandalize our sacred grounds. It has without doubt had an extremely emotional impact on our parish members and the community at large. We are hopeful that our police services will be able to identify the individuals responsible and have the ability to bring them to justice. At the same time we also pray that the same individuals get the help they need to stabilize their own lives so events such as this are not repeated.
We would like to provide some information to our families whose monuments have been damaged. There has been several meetings by the board members at the location to plan for the next stage to return our cemetery to it’s original state and place the monuments back in position. We have met with members of Stratford Memorials to assist us with a recovery plan. Stratford Memorials will be on site on Monday January 9th with the proper equipment and a team of professionals to begin restoring the monuments. Under no circumstances should anyone else attempt to lift these granite monuments. There is a high risk of personal injury as the monuments are quite heavy. During this process we ask the public to stay clear of the cemetery grounds next week to allow Stratford Memorials and their professionals to do their job.
There have been many questions about the cost to restore our cemetery. We are currently having discussions with the diocese and their insurance providers about these issues. An announcement on this matter will be shared with our members only when details are finalized. Stratford Memorials have assured us the cost will be kept to a minimal charge. The board has made the decision to go ahead and restore the monuments first and sort out the finances at a later date.
We have also received many offers from skilled individuals to assist with the recovery plan. We appreciate the offer however direct involvement with the handling of the monuments will be left up to the professionals.
We would like to thank the Mitchell community at large for the outpouring of concern for our cemetery and the families affected by this horrific act. Together we will do our best to restore our cemetery and once again allow our loved ones to rest peacefully.
