In Germany, 1923, banknotes became so worthless due to hyperinflation that people used them as wallpaper. The largest denomination printed was a 100 trillion Reichsmark note (100,000,000,000,000 RM), which had almost no purchasing power. While the Weimar Republic’s inflation crisis in the early 1920s wasn’t the first or most extreme in history, it remains one of the most analyzed and debated events in economic studies.
