Despite today being the coldest day of the season, I canā€™t help but feel grateful. Iā€™m blessed to be breathing, blessed to have another day to chase dreams, and blessed to feel the sunshine hitting just right on my face. Itā€™s a little reminder that even in the chill, thereā€™s warmth to be found. Wishing you all a beautiful day filled with light, love, and the perfect touch of sunshine.

Stay cozy and keep shining!

Christmas 2025 was pure magic, and Iā€™m still riding the high from all the love, laughter, and unforgettable moments. From the incredible food and endless dancing to the joy of having my bestie (left) come up from NYCā€”it was truly a time to cherish with our families. We made memories that Iā€™ll carry into the new year with a full heart. Hereā€™s to holding onto the warmth of the holidays just a little longer!

Grateful for the incredible partnerships in 2024! Collaborating with amazing brands has elevated my advocacy for dementia caregivers and fueled passion projects that celebrate body positivity and authentic representation in Canadian media and literature.

I just want to leave you with this tidbitā€¦

When you have an idea, move with it. Doubt will try to creep in, and fear might make you hesitateā€”but do it scared anyway. Some of my greatest successes came when doubt whispered in my ear, yet I kept going. Grateful for incredible collaborations this year, some bringing multiple opportunities. As 2025 approaches, Iā€™m still movingā€”uncertain, unsure, but determined. You donā€™t need all the answers to take the first step. Trust the process, stay focused, and keep moving forward. Doubt and fear may visit, but they donā€™t get to stay. Hereā€™s to embracing the unknown and achieving greatness together!

Caring for a loved one with dementia isnā€™t just about navigating memory and emotional challengesā€”itā€™s also about nourishing them with the right foods. Diet is one of the most important, and often overlooked, aspects of dementia care. For me, making meals for my mom is not just a responsibility...

Caregiving is a journey filled with love, resilience, and challenges.

To every caregiver feeling like theyā€™re not doing enoughā€”you are. Your presence, patience, and compassion speak louder than the tasks you worry about completing. Even when criticism comes from family members who donā€™t fully understand your daily efforts, remember that their perception doesnā€™t define your reality.

Caregiving is not about perfection. Itā€™s about showing up, doing your best, and sharing love in ways that matter. Be kind to yourself. Celebrate small wins and allow yourself grace when things feel heavy.

Seek support when needed, set healthy boundaries, and prioritize your own well-being. Self-care isnā€™t selfishā€”itā€™s a way to sustain the energy and strength you need to continue this important work.

You are enough, and the love you give is priceless.

The caregiver cruise was an invaluable experience. We learned new caregiving tips, and shared personal stories.

I was honoured to have been asked to lead a writing workshop activity where we reflected on life before caregiving and explored ways to reconnect with what makes us unique, despite the demands of our busy lives. Caregivers also participated in a creative writing exercise that they mentioned was extremely therapeutic. A truly enriching and inspiring time.

Caregivers are constantly thinking about tasks like parentsā€™ medical appointments, kidsā€™ school or doctor visits, helping with homework, grocery shopping, car maintenance, and managing their relationship with their spouse.

What else are we missing from the list? If youā€™ve ever felt the pressure of caring for both generations, you know the mental load is heavy. Share your thoughts! What additional responsibilities do sandwich caregivers juggle that arenā€™t listed here?

Letā€™s keep the conversation going and help others in this position by adding to the list of daily tasks.

Pets offer emotional support and companionship that can greatly benefit Alzheimerā€™s patients. Their presence can reduce anxiety, promote social interaction, and even improve mood.

Simple activities like petting a dog or watching a fish swim can trigger positive memories and stimulate mental engagement. The unconditional love and routine provided by pets bring a sense of purpose and joy to those struggling with memory loss, making them invaluable companions in the journey with Alzheimerā€™s.

Finding the sweet spot in balancing meds for your loved one is ongoing. You may get it right for a time but as we know, dementia is ever changing. Donā€™t be afraid to periodically revisit the medication combination or timing with your care provider. If youā€™re still having difficulty, try these strategies:

Helping Your Loved One with Dementia Take Their Medication: Essential Tips

Getting a loved one with dementia to take their medication can be challenging. Here are some strategies to help:

1. Create a Positive Environment: Approach the situation with calmness and patience. Use a gentle tone to make your loved one feel comfortable and at ease. Staying calm will help reduce anxiety and resistance.

2. Simplify the Process: Break down the task by giving one pill at a time if multiple medications are involved. If possible, opt for easy-to-swallow forms like liquid medications, crushable tablets, or dissolvable strips to make it easier for them to take.

3. Establish a Routine: Consistency is key. Give medications at the same time and place each day to create a routine. Link medication times to regular daily activities, like meals or bedtime, to help them remember.

5. Use Distraction and Redirection: Engage your loved one in conversation or a favorite activity while administering medication. Redirect their attention away from the medication and then back again gently to minimize resistance.

These strategies can help ensure your loved one with dementia receives their medications safely and effectively.

When your parent with dementia frequently talks about things that arenā€™t factual, it can be challenging to navigate the conversation. Itā€™s important to approach these moments with empathy and understanding, ensuring that your responses are supportive rather than confrontational. Here are three tips to help you respond effectively:

1. Validate Their Memories: Even if what theyā€™re saying isnā€™t accurate, acknowledging their feelings and memories is crucial. For example, if they talk about an event that didnā€™t happen, you might say, ā€œThat sounds important to you,ā€ rather than correcting them.

2. Gently Redirect the Conversation: If the topic is distressing or confusing for them, try to gently steer the conversation toward a more positive or familiar subject. This can help reduce anxiety and keep the mood light.

3. Avoid Quizzing: Asking questions that require specific answers can increase frustration. Instead, encourage open-ended responses or simply engage in the conversation without focusing on the details.

These approaches can help maintain a calm and supportive environment for your loved one.
