La MRC émet une mise à jour sur les risques d'inondation

MRC PONTIAC - Julien Gagnon, coordonnateur des incendies et de la sécurité publique de la MRC, a émis les détails suivants concernant les risques d'inondation dans le Pontiac, le jeudi 20 avril, à 7h00. "Le niveau de la rivière des Outaouais à Pembroke est actuellement de 112,8 mètres, celui du lac Coulonge de 108,06 mètres et celui de la rivière à Chat Falls (Bristol) de 75,36 mètres. Ces niveaux sont presque identiques aux niveaux prévus qui ont été annoncés par la Commission de planification de la régularisation de la rivière des Outaouais (CPRRO ) mardi. La ORRPB s'attend à ce que ces niveaux se stabilisent tout au long de la journée d'aujourd'hui et qu'ils puissent même être abaissés au cours des prochains jours, jusqu'à la fin du week-end...... Nous surveillons de près les précipitations attendues samedi et tout au long de la semaine prochaine. Ces précipitations pourraient avoir un effet sur le niveau des rivières au début de la semaine prochaine. Nous demandons à tous les résidents de rester vigilants et de se préparer à l'éventualité d'une nouvelle montée des eaux à ce moment-là. En outre, les personnes touchées doivent rester en contact avec leur municipalité locale et prendre des photos de tout dégât matériel afin de faciliter une demande d'aide financière, s'il s'avère qu'une aide financière est nécessaire.

"Il faut noter que les niveaux actuels de la rivière des Outaouais sont encore bien en deçà des niveaux d'inondation de 2019 de près d'un mètre dans tous les secteurs de la rivière. Étant donné que la plupart des résidences touchées en 2019 ont été démolies ou sécurisées de manière à les protéger contre les niveaux d'inondation futurs, nos municipalités locales ne s'attendent pas à ce qu'il y ait des résidences touchées à ce stade. Il convient également de noter qu'en 2017, la rivière des Outaouais a connu un pic préliminaire de son niveau d'eau le 19 avril, qui a ensuite été réduit d'environ 30 centimètres au cours de la semaine suivante avant d'atteindre à nouveau un pic au début du mois de mai. Étant donné que nous ne pouvons pas prévoir avec précision les tendances météorologiques à venir au-delà de 7 jours environ, il est presque impossible de prévoir ce que les prochaines semaines nous réservent.

MRC issues update on flood risk

MRC PONTIAC - Julien Gagnon, the MRC’s Fire and Public Safety co-ordinator, issued the following details concerning current flood risk in the Pontiac, Thursday, April 20, at 7:00 am. “The level of the Ottawa River at Pembroke currently sits at 112.8 metres, Lac Coulonge at 108.06 metres and the levels of the river at Chat Falls (Bristol) is currently at 75.36 metres. These levels are almost identical to the expected levels that were announced by the Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board (ORRPB) on Tuesday. The ORRPB is expecting these levels to stabilize throughout the day today and may even be lowered in the next few days, until later in the weekend….. We are closely monitoring the expected rainfall on Saturday and throughout next week. This rainfall may have an effect on the river levels early next week. We ask that all residents remain vigilant and prepare for the potential of more rising water levels at that time; as well, anyone affected should stay in contact with their local municipality and take pictures of any damage to property in order to aid in a request for financial assistance, if it turns out that financial assistance is needed.

“It must be noted that the current Ottawa River levels are still well under the 2019 flood levels by almost a meter in all areas of the river. Considering that most affected residences in 2019 were either demolished or secured in a way as to protect against future flood levels, our local municipalities are not expecting to see any affected residences at this point. It should also be noted that in 2017, the Ottawa River experienced a preliminary peak of its water level on April 19, which then was reduced by approximately 30 centimetres in the following week before peaking again in early May. Due to the fact that we cannot forecast the upcoming weather trends accurately past 7 days or so, it is almost impossible to foresee what the next few weeks have in store for us.

“For all of these reasons, we ask that you stay tuned to your local media and government social media pages in order to stay up to date on the latest information concerning the flood watch.”

Shawville mourns passing of Sandra Murray

Sandra Murray, former mayor of Shawville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 26, with her family by her side. Sandra served as Shawville councillor for several years before becoming its first female Mayor, serving two terms before retiring in the fall of 2021 due to health reasons. She was also a member of the Shawville Lionettes and the Shawville United Church. Sandra is survived by her husband Barry, her three children and 8 grandchildren. Her strong leadership and commitment to helping others will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Passing of former Pontiac MP Robert Bertrand

The family Robert Bertrand announced his passing May 17. The popular MP from Fort-Coulonge died in Shawville at the age of 69. Mr Bertrand was Liberal Party of Canada | Parti libéral du Canada MP for Pontiac-Gatineau-Labelle from 1993 to 2004. He went on to the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples where he sat as chief. This organization helps the 70% of first nations people in Canada who live off-reserve. His family and friends mourn his passing and say they are grateful it was not a long battle with cancer. Le Centre de services scolaire des Hauts-Bois-de-l'Outaouais informe la population de son territoire que le transport est annulé.

Les cours sont maintenus pour tous les élèves de la formation générale des jeunes, de la formation générale des adultes et à la formation professionnelle. Les cours sont aussi maintenus pour les élèves de la Commission scolaire Western Québec.

Le personnel doit se présenter à leur lieu de travail à l'heure habituelle.

Les services de garde sont ouverts.

La collaboration des parents/tuteurs est demandée pour transporter les élèves. S’il n’est pas possible pour l’élève de se rendre à l’école, le parent doit justifier l’absence en téléphonant au secrétariat de l'école.

This Sunday will be the 40th anniversary of the Terry Fox Run in the Pontiac. This year`s run will be different from other years. Participants will be able to register from 10:00 am until 2:00 p.m. Upon registration participants will begin their walk.The course will cover 10 kilometers but walkers can cover any distance that they are comfortable with. The organizers are looking for people to cross the start line. The course begins and ends at Pontiac High School. The Shawville Lions club will be hosting a BBQ. Participants are encouraged to follow Covid 19 health protocol by bringing their own water and by limiting social contact..Pledge sheets can be obtained from either Shawville bank or contact John Petty (819-647-24020 or Rick Valin(819-647-5609). Let`s keep Terry`s dream alive. See you on September 19th.
