I know that “we boating” people hang onto EVERYTHING because some day -in the future- it might come in handy. I just received a phone call wondering if I know of anyone who would have two extrusions from a 1992 Furlex model Type B Mark 11. If you have two kicking around, or know of someone who might have “said parts” -could you kindly direct your discoveries to Jim Miller [email protected]
Thank you!

I am sorting through papers that Mom gave me from Dad’s files. He was brilliant when it came to math and he loved and lived sail making. Seeing these pages and his meticulous notes is a reminder of how important details are. As Katie and I work through each new sail we make, please know that we work hard to ensure all your details are thought through to give you the sail you need. I was taught by my father (Robert Stevens) and influenced by my grandfather (Harold Stevens) to make a sail that lasts, not just for the sale, not just for the season, but for decades. We are preparing for the upcoming Halifax Boat Show in a few weeks. Bring your questions and we will do our best to help you prepare for 2024.

On this day, in 1881, Randolph Stevens was born. One of 21 children, Randolph (or Grandpop) as he became known to the family, was the first sail maker in our family. As his descendent, I am proud to be a fourth generation sail maker and the first female sail maker in our family. Randolph wore many hats - father of 12, Skipper of racings yachts in Chester, master sail maker on Second Peninsula and sail trimmer on Bluenose. I am sharing a picture of a suit of schooner sails made by Randolph. All schooner sails in the area were vertical cut, but the boat that is leading has cross cut sails - a “new” design Randolph imported from his travels.

I have a magazine article hanging by my desk since 2012 written about Henry Vokey of Newfoundland. He is a famous boat builder in Trinity. This past week, Al and I watched a NF Land and Sea episode featuring Henry and his boat, which we made the sails for. It is (as always) a very lovely episode of a very gifted man and the love and admiration his children have for him. We are very fortunate to meet and make sails for some wonderful and special customers.

I am thrilled to share an article written by Kim Werker - a talented publisher from Vancouver who was visiting our area last summer:

In which Kim Werker learns how Michele Stevens Sailloft made the tremendous sails of the iconic Bluenose II.
