I'm still in Brampton, a baby senior surrounded by those who have lots of practice - people my parents knew. People who knew me when I was born. Mary is a friend of my aunt in Holland. She knew my grandparents. That feels surreal, but it also is something I cherish.

If you are on my feed, you will notice the number of posts about missing persons, especially those who are Indigenous.
There are so many...some women have been missing for years....

I wonder...how many layers of garbage are they buried under? And how many families will never, ever know anything.

Why does it matter? Because I could be one of those mothers left hanging. My daughter is Metis and so are her children.

This book is recommended for twelve-year-olds and up. The white grandmother in me screams, "No..wait until they're a little older, maybe sixteen or seventeen, Safiya's age?" This is hard stuff. The reality is that Indigenous peoples, brown and black people, immigrants, migrants -live with the reality of this story from the time of conception. Maybe even in the lives of the grandmothers who bore their mothers....
