You know the Simon & Garfunkel song (later brilliantly reimagined by Disturbed), "The Sound of Silence?"

There's a lyric line in that song that sums up what KB (our Founder & President, pictured) so deeply believes about most marketing-speak:

"People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never shared."

In other words ... ALL of us have something to say and share yet MOST of us are hiding in plain sight. It's because we're not really sure what to say. We don't fully trust ourselves, so we look to others and mimic some version of what they're doing.

That's the face we encourage you to share on your social media. At least occasionally.

We might compare ourselves to what we think is "perfect" but what we actually relate to is "real."

The more polished and "professional" something looks, the more it tends to scream "SALES PITCH!"

That's not what people are on social media for.

Keep it simple.

Use your own voice, your own words and your own face (you know ... the unedited one we're going to see anyway if we have a meeting or Zoom call).

Put your ads, flyers and "brochures" out, sure. It's part of the deal.

But they're going to work much better for you if you've built a bit of a relationship first.

Sooner or later, in most cases, somebody's got to reach out, connect and make a direct invitation in the "real" world.

Phone call. Face-to-face. Zoom. Walk-in and say hi ... whatever.

They may be seeing (and even appreciating) your social media posts just like they may be listening to (or watching) your station, but the best chance to get them to actually *do* something is to personally invite them to.

Most people are not likely in the market for your exactly product or service ... TODAY.

But the bulk of them will be - or know someone who will be - at some point down the road.

Today's the time to be building relationships with them; showing them who you are and what you stand for.

Just remember that "hurry," 'rush," "act now" and "don't miss out" won't do much for someone who isn't in immediate need for what you're offering.

In fact, it's likely to have the opposite effect from what you're hoping.

See if you can have what few other local advertisers do:

Patience.
