This spring I decided I needed a little help on my daily bike ride. The hills were starting to bother me and I was limiting the distance I biked so that I didn't get further away from home than I could comfortably pedal back. The solution seemed to be an electric bicycle.. an ebike. The idea of pedal assist to deal with hills or headwinds and throttle control allowing for no pedaling at all really appealed to me....

It was a special occasion. Our 35th wedding anniversary and Susan and I had been looking forward to a dinner out for months. So off to our favourite restaurant on the West Island, 40 Westt. My barely six-month-old Volkswagen Golf GTI has been sitting in the garage for the past two months, except for the odd spin to keep the battery charged. Today however was a big day for my little VW, it was getting summer shoes. Fortunately, we didn't have to go far from home. Until a few days ago I was wearing my winter parka for my daily walk through my neighbourhood. Temperatures even dipped below zero on some mornings. Then suddenly over the space of a few days came sunshine temperatures in the teens and warm spring rain replaced the cold late winter rain. My front lawn has been plagued with crabgrass for the past few years and all my efforts to eliminate crabgrass have seemed to only make it worse. The infestation is especially bad next to the driveway where the concrete curb seems to generate the heat crabgrass needs to thrive. It has been a month since my last real outing. I have not left the house except for a daily constitutional around the neighbourhood. Today I am off to an appointment with a doctor. Last November I was actively shopping for a new winter parka. I wanted something warm and stylish and in a colour that was not black. I had begun to despair that I would have to buy a black parka in a big and puffy style that would make me look like the Michelin man. A visit to the Mackage store at Carrefour Laval changed everything, not only did they have the Urban style I was looking for but a nice brown colour that was more flattering on me than black. It wasn't long after I picked up my new Volkswagen Golf GTI that I fell in love with Apple Car Play. It provided a friendly and familiar interface to the entertainment system in my new car. However, I hated having to plug in my iPhone every time I wanted to use Car Play and even worse I would often leave the phone in the car when I left it despite an on-screen warning not to forget my phone.
